The latest Nikon patents: 400mm, 500mm and 600mm f/5.6 Phase Fresnel (PF) lenses.
Phase Fresnel or Diffractive Optics in Canon speak.
Canon's 400/5.6 has been the poor mans wildlife tele for ages but it's dated and has no IS. It needs an update. Nikon doesn't even have a 400/5.6 prime...
No. I needed another external unit anyways. If they drop to $140'ish again I'll buy another and use the bare drive in my desktop. Here's the info on the drive as reported by CrystalDiskInfo 7.5.0.

Looks like Nikon is close to announcing a Nikkor 180-400mm f/4 pro zoom with built in 1.4x TC.
Too expensive for normal people but at least they have what Canon users have had for YEARS now.
I guess I need to add reading comprehension to my list of faults. :( At my current rate of decline my non-nonsensical post will be indistinguishable from Lunar's in 5-6 years.
I'm slow. Can you walk me thru your statement. Says your join date is Feb 2002 which is 15 years ago. You said you were 15 when you joined but now you are 37?
Back up to $200. Flurry of activity on the Hardocp forums with people grabbing them at the $140 price. Seems people are still getting the 256MB cache 'RED' drives in these units.
Do they actually inspect the car for a CA emissions test? Perhaps take it to an 'authorized testing facility' and grease the tech?!? Here in AZ they simply plug into the OBDII port and ensure all the readiness monitors are set and that there are no error codes. Then they connect a hose to the...
Just to clarify, the $200 drive has the better HDD than the $300 one?
Wants vs Needs Lunar. I want it, but don't really need it. Plus my car needs to be replaced soon.
Yeah that true. A degree gets you past the HR gatekeepers. I guess I meant to say don't take on USD$100,000 student loan debt getting a gender studies degree.
As I noted above apply for a deferment anyways to reduce your financial burden.
If in a STEM or accounting/financial degree track that will lead to a real paying job, then yes go back but if Sed was in a mickey mouse program but gets a real job now, forget it.
Wait. Did you finish school already? Usually student loan repayment doesn't start until 6 months after you graduate? Apply for a deferment or forbearance.
This.
I think this is pretty common knowledge. Get all the bolts/nuts started first before tightening them down.
Kyle of Hard|OCP shows the installation on a TR4 socket here.
A couple of my addons don't work correctly/like they used to when updated so I stopped updating them anyways. So I'll probably just not update FF past v56. I probably have to install another browser/plugins and test for functionality eventually anyways. I'll just kick the can down the road...
How large is the monitor? If father-n-law has poor eyesight a larger monitor at the same resolution of the current monitor would be nice and would get you a nice 'pat-on-the-back-thanks-son-in-law' handshake!
He probably won't care/notice/appreciate any internal updates to machine and like...
Funny you bring up 3D printers. I'm not interested myself but was chatting with a couple of young lady gamers/cosplayers at work that are thinking of getting a 3D printer to create various 'fashion accessories' and the like.
Well at least I updated my routers firmware. It's dated 17-July-2017 so it doesn't contain the needed fixes for the WPA2 issues but at least is newer than the 2013 firmware that it originally came with. ;)
I'm currently running Firefox 56.0 (32-bit) and seven Addons.
-Adblock Plus.
-DownThenAll!
-Ghostery.
-Imagehost Grabber.
-NoScript.
-Video DownloadHelper.
-YouTube HTML5-Video.
All of them except Ghostery are tagged as legacy and will be blocked with Firefox 57. Any comments/suggestions on...
I started seeing ads on YouTube. Went into Adblock Plus and all my filter subscriptions were gone?!? Don't know if AB+ was recently updated causing the problem on if Noscript is doing something. I added all the subs back and things seem fine now.
I was looking for something and in the back of a closet I found a really old, no, ancient laptop. An AST Research Ascentia 900n to be exact. Still powers up and boots into Windows 95. It was WAY outdated when I used it at uni to type up papers during 1998-2000. Keyboard is still better than...
^^^ A Lunar link that actually goes where it's supposed to go. It's not perfectly formatted but hey, small steps right?
40 TB drives in 2025. I think the MHD manufacturers figured out a way to stay relevant with respect to the SSD; create MHDs so large that the only way to back...
No. I just did some pruning and deleted/archived some older files. I just couldn't justify the expense right now, as it was more of a luxury then a true need. I just kicked the can down the road a bit and will have to make a decision later next year.
