    I need less sucky printers

I agree with Tannin on this. Canon is probably the only way to go. A lot of their mid range inkjets now come with integrated network ports, and they have a few models designed for business use with huge ink tanks (expensive to buy but much cheaper per page). cheers, mangyDOG.

    Port forwarding with two routers

Hi Tea, I'm not sure with smoothwall, but with IPcop I use the blue interface which is fully protected from the Internet. The blue Interface is intended for a wireless AP connection with limited access to the green network (none by default) but still secure from the Red network. A quick look at...

    Port forwarding with two routers

Hi Tea, Another option might be to add a 2nd NIC to your smooth wall box (I use IPcop and this works well). Three NICs = red to modem, green to your PCs via a standard switch, blue (or orange) to client PCs via a standard switch. This means that all PCs are shielded from the Internet via the...

Quiet tower case for 8+ HDDs?

I also just remembered, according to the supermicro website when using the SM 5in3 drive enclosures you disconnect the integrated fan and use the SC-942 12cm cooling fans, this should keep the noise down significantly. cheers, mangyDOG.

Quiet tower case for 8+ HDDs?

The Supermicro SC743T-645 uses server grade 8cm 6000rpm cooling fans, so it isn't on the quiet side. It is a great case as it can also be rack mounted but I wouldn't put it under your desk. I'm getting an SC-942 soon for my office so I hope the 12cm fans in it are reasonably quiet. cheers, mangyDOG

PC will not boot with HD2600Pro card.

Ok, got it to boot sort of normally, had to disable in the bios the 2nd LAN port, the eSata controller & the firewire controller. However the display is now "flickering" (imagine an old 15" CRT monitor running at about 20Hz). Looks like I may need to try a different graphics card. :-(

PC will not boot with HD2600Pro card.

Just need to give them fixed IP addresses, if you do not have any Internet then use: 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.3 192.168.0.4 192.168.0.5 I would leave 192.168.0.1 free as that is used by XP internet connection sharing if your client ever needs to turn that on and is also occasionally used by...

Slow WD740 Raptor on nVidia Chipset.

Running on molex changed nothing. Still some form of conflict between the Raptor and the nVidia chipset or nVidia drivers. Strange shutdown problem

Have you considered that the CMOS batteries are getting flat? If the PCs are 4 years old the batteries are probably getting to the end of there lives. If you pull the battery out for a few minutes and put it back in there would probably be enough residual charge to fire up the bios again. I...

NEWZ: MS Office 2003 Service Pack 2 Available

The only known problem with Office 2k3 SP2 (so far) is if you have run the Windows Disk Cleanup after installing office 2k3. This removes the MSOcache hidden directory which then breaks the client version of the patch. If you use the full 104Mb version it will work OK. If you have the client...
