Anybody planning a trip for this event?

Well my friend and I booked 10 of the 11 nights for our trip to the Eclipse. He's going to drive from Cali to Surprise AZ, pick me up, then we'll crash for the night in Flagstaff, AZ. Then two nights in Zion NP, two nights in Bryce Canyon NP, then two nights in Evanston WY (nights of Aug 20...

Just go low tech and buy some eclipse glasses @ $100 for 50. Actually looking up at sun IRL > TV monitor. Probably just shoot some video of this myself. Jellystone & Grand Teton NP. Same obviously.

Yeah of course there are going to be better pics on the internet, from NASA, etc. But they wouldn't by MY photos. I was thinking of just shooting 1080p video and call it a day anyways so not a whole lot of technique needed. Might just kick back and enjoy the show instead.

All in One. The cooling system, radiator, fan, hoses, etc are sold as a complete, ready to work unit.

I have my 200-500mm and was going to rent a 2x TC and filters but they are all OOS until after the eclipse.

Anybody planning a trip for this event?

I'm going to bump this as it's only a week and change away from happening. Anybody else going to drive up north, or down south to see the eclipse on August 21? I secured my time off work but that's about it. Did not make any preparations as far as motel reservations, camera equipment rentals...

Well I guess I won't be able to rent a tele converter from LensRentals for my eclipse trip. Photographing the sun at 500mm will result in a small image so was thinking of renting a 2x converter. I guess I should have put my order in MONTHS ago. Motels are probably going to be $500-1000/night...

My initial excitement for the D850 has cooled a bit. I was thinking the D850 would be a D810 + extra goodies, vis-a-vis: 1) Resolution bump from 36 to 46MP, 2) Improved AF system (D5/D500 system), 3) Tilt screen, 4) WiFi/Snapbridge, 5) 8-10 FPS, 6) Joystick to select AF point, etc, etc...

Now the rumor for the D850 is that it will shoot "faster than 8 fps." I wonder if sales of the D500 and D5 have dropped to a point that protecting sales of those models, by keeping the frame rate of the D850 artificially low, no longer matter? This will make the 5D4 seem "slow" at only 7 fps...

"New: the D850 will be on display at the Photo+ Expo in October" per the Nikon Rumors site here. We'll have to wait till October, probably, before we get any real info. :( Nikon's press release mentions the D850 is usable for "commercial sports" so maybe the rumors of 8 FPS is accurate. I...

Rumor has it that the D850 will have a D500 sensor scaled up to FX, so around 45-46 MP. One D850 spec listed on the B&H web site is 8K time lapse video. Interesting. 8K Nikon preview trailer here. No info just 48 seconds of hype.

I see your points regarding the small size of SD cards. And I actually agree with them 100%. Then again, I have had no issues (yet!) with the SD cards being used in my D610. I haven't had to change cards while wearing gloves. Yet. "Bent CF pins in camera" Vs "greasy fingers on SD contacts"...

I wonder about the optical quality of a $100 400/2.8 pancake lens. LOL. Obviously you mean 40mm. ;) Well this is not good for Nikon as only Lexar and Sony make XQD cards. Sandisk doesn't make XQD cards. Not good for Nikon to be locked into Sony only memory cards.

I'm curious. Why do you dislike SD cards? 1) slow speed; 2) not-reliable; 3) fragile; or 4) combination of 1, 2 & 3? If #2 and/or #3 is a concern then a single SD slot would be a deal breaker I would think. Seems that XQD (Nikon) or CFAST (Canon) are the "high-end" cards of the future, while...
