    Hard Drive Recommendations

In the enterprise drive category I have 8x18TB WD DC, 8x18TB & 4x20TB Seagate EXOS plus older 8x10TB Seagates Enterprise/EXOS. The old Seagates were some of the first they had with Heliums, but they are quiet and refuse to die. It's not that the newer EXOS are terrible, but not what I want in...

    Hard Drive Recommendations

The WD Ultrastar Datacenter drives are my favorites. The Seagate EXOS are a bit cheaper but noisy. I do not suggest the consumer drives as many have only 10^-14 UBER and lower workload ratings.

SSDs - State of the Product?

My expensive 3.84TB U.2 SSD died in a few days on one of those BS adapters. That was before there were any useful 4TB M.2 drives. I was not amused.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I would need a server type of motherboard to have enough PCIe slots and lanes for other devices. In the 90s we had 6 PCI slots and the enthusiast boards had 40+ lanes in the Hasbro E era. I would buy a server board if the processors were not so costly and slow per core. I'm hoping to have 1-2...

SSDs - State of the Product?

The 4TB 990 Pro was finally released. Interestingly it is single sided, so cooling in most systems should be easier than the two-sided designs. I'm really hoping for 8TB in mainstream M.2 SSDs soon, but everyone is focused on PCIe 5.

I can't say much about artsy effects, because I find humans one of the least visually attractive subjects. A high-energy mamal with limited fur (to dissipate heat by sweat) and fat visible under the thin hide just does not compare well aesthetically to most birds, insects, fish, furry mammals...

Not a chance. Film curves were not really accurate, but we worked hard to make them look good. Now those goofy DXO and similar profiles make digital look worse in some cases than film needed to be back then. It's ridiculous, like when somebody take a high quality film from 40 years ago and...

In my workroom there are a few speakers connected, mainly the pair of frontal Pork Audio from a number of years ago. I don't know the model but they have a wooden veneer, 6.5' woofer-mid and small domed tweeter. Then I have some smaller ones for the sides that are like 5-way stereo. There is...

I guess it did not like my privates browsing. There are no shorty AMD cards, but several 4060 and even 4060 TI cards that are in the size range. The 4060 TI is more power and dollars. I hope the 4060 is adequate for 20-24MP files on the PS or DXO.

No, I don't have any use for that. I have a Blue-Ray player, but have not used it in years. I would play audio directly through the receiver. I forgot to ask, but I don't use the ARC of Samsung. I would like to have the device, e.g. Roku, go into one of the Yamahah HDMI inputs if that is allowed.

The DeNoise or the AI? I only use Topaz for the TIF files. DXO is much better for high-ISO RAW files. It's not even close and Topaz AI is not a full program. I suppose people use it for DNG, but now why not just use PS or LR altogether?

Z 135/1.8 S. The main claim to fame is the relatively low light falloff wide open. Of course the bokahs are excellent. I have zero use for that kind of lens though and Canon has a 135/1.8 which is pretty fine also.

Cost is not an option, but it has to be short to fit the case, hence the MSI 4060. I know that some of the U-Tuber freaks are complaining about the price relative to the performance, but not about the product. A 4060 at 115W seems like a low amount of power that will not overheat the case or...

Roku looks not bad if they are more independent of the brands, but what does it mean that they make it a hassle to use the LAN? As I mentioned, I'm not using Wi-Fi only the 1GbE, so does it mean not practical to use them? I'm definitely not interested in a new TV since everyone says that the...

The WD Blacks operate up to 85°C IIRC. I have two that are cool (Under 50°C) and one that is warmer due to the mainbod having only a one-sided heatsink for the 3rd and 4th M.2 slots. I would accept 8TB as I have two PCIe 5.0 M.2 from the CPU with the dual-sided heatsinks.
