I've slept in some very nice beds, certainly better than any I ever owned, but also some that were pretty rough and for a good reason. Some of the most rewarding experiences in life come from stepping out of the comfort zone, both physically and emotionally. Although it is no longer possible to...

Theoretically the video will only be at power for brief periods of time in bursters during file processing. It's not used continuously as in games or emulating proteins, preparing cryptobionic monies, etc. I have a 140mm rear case fan that is tied to CPU temperature. There is a slowish 200mm...

I threw out a lot of old stuff during the Pandemoneic times. The last thing I would like to do is remind myself about the old 32-bit computer days. :( I do have an XP laptop or two and a 5th gen NUC with Windows 7, but they take little space. I also have a drawer of old PCIe cards that...

If CL is the same then there is a little improvement with speed, but it is not so sensitive. I prefer CL14 at 3200 (or C16 at 3600) for Ryzen 3. Howerver, I would not pay a while lot more over C16 3200 for a budget build. FWIW, I built a µATX 5700G system for a family member in late 2021. The...

Is it just me or is the Amazon becoming inhospitable? Half the time I am asked to read some illegible codes and can't get it right sometimes. Alternatively there is audio, but that requires computer sound and no other sound. It's ridiculous to do this ten times a day.

SSDs - State of the Product?

The WD and Sandisk TB are backordered. Some people say they are the same drive and both out of production. :( You might say that I have massive needs. The problem is that there are few NAS with over 12 bays or they are expensive enterprise stuff. One can assemble a mid-range SMB NAS with...

SSDs - State of the Product?

What is up with the 4TB SATA SSDs becoming hard to find? I don't know why they never made any newer generations of the 8TB after the early QLC Samsung. If you open up the 4TB TLC drives there is plenty of room for 8TB of flash chips, so the low capacity is just bogus. Is it a scheme by Amazon...

I'd like to see the difference in speed between the 4070 Ti and the 4070. The 4070 Ti will be a tight fit, but the 4070 may or may not be much smaller. It looks like there are only a few 4070 Ti that are less than 3+ slots wide and not in stock. It's also a bit strange that many of the same...

Are you viewing it without glasses? It seems to me that the pixel level viewing distance would require a lot of neck/head movement and the difference between center and edges to eyes would vary a lot. 32" are typically 4K, so the pixel pitch is too small (~0.17mm or 149 ppi) to easily judge images or see the non-scaled graphics in many older applications. For whatever reason they seem to be geared towards the videos, with extra wide diplays 4096x2160 like the CG319X which isn;t the best for...

27'" WQHD is about 109 ppi. That is about the highest resolution where I can see the pixels and read graphics of older applications that don't scale. That's one of the reasons I will not go to higher resolution, besides needing a crazy humongous video card.

I'm seeing up to 230W on CPU bunchmarks, but more like 200W in heavy actual use. My measly RTX 3060Ti only allows 200W, so that's 400W at least. I think the RAM, NVME NAND flash, chipset and PCI cards are maybe another 100W or so. Maybe the total could be 600W at the outlet, but most likely...

I wouldn't know. IIRC in the 1990s you had to buy a Kodak DCS series to get a Canon EOS mount on a digital camera and mostly newspapers and news orgs owned them. Canon did not have FF until Thanksgiving 2002 and I got one 1Ds around March of the next year. I found some download of Canon...

My display that does 23.75-30.5Hz and 47.5-60Hz was about $2500 a few years ago. I could not justify much more money than that for the 27' 2560 display. How is the 120Hz on TV any different from 120Hz on a computer, just because the intermediate frames are faked?

No idea what the number is for me. I don't have any monitors that go over 60 Hz anyway. Maybe something higher would seem more "continuous" to me but I won't know unless I experience it. Also, since I'm using an APU, I doubt I can get over 60 Hz regardless, except maybe with all the settings...

I will defer to your younger eyeballs. I think 60Hz is normal. Years ago I watched TV with the 120Hz setting and after a while it was nauseous. I read about the FreeSyncs if that is similar to what the competitors are doing. I measured my new build and it is limited to 3 slots at the most...

DPP doesn't leave any weird files. It's not like that awful LR database and the sidekcik files. :( None of the programs are good at corrections as DPP. Even DXO, which supposedly has some deconvolution processing per lens, was disappointing with some of the Canon zoom lenses. Most people...
