    What distro and why?

Got back onto Arch. Running XFCE again, decided I didn't want to bother with installing MATE programs when the ones bundled with XFCE fufill their intended function and I didn't have to hunt them down to install them. Even got GPU folding working right off the bat! Thanks for the advice...

    What distro and why?

I personally loved Arch Linux. Well, love. I can't say that I don't, it's delightfully minimalistic and I have a bit of a thing for minimalist operating environments. I didn't consider it this time around mostly because I simply didn't think of it (and tried to justify my laziness afterward)...

I know, but if I don't need to then I don't particularly want to. Less work for me, y'know?

    What distro and why?

Ubuntu MATE seems a little more fully featured for a marginal requirements increase than Xubuntu, otherwise that's no doubt what I'd be on myself. XFCE is simply superb, but I found that I preferred several MATE applications to their suggested XFCE counterparts and found that the functionality...

    What distro and why?

For the Linux nerds among us, what distro are you using, and why do you feel that it was the best choice? I'm using Ubuntu MATE (though I have been known to use Arch and variants of Debian/Ubuntu/Mint in the past) because with an Ubuntu base things didn't take hours upon hours just to set up on...

Frankly my PPD count is getting a bit ridiculous given my hardware... I was getting roughly 13k PPD under Windows 10, now I'm getting almost 19k. Is Linux seriously that much more efficient with hardware resources?

GT730. And you got it right, the initial estimate was way off. Now it's saying something like 2 days, which is much more acceptable. And the credit more than doubled to almost 30k.

I'm having issues downloading the software. My connection to their website is very, very slow, and when I do manage to start downloading the deb files for use with Ubuntu, it fails less than a third into it. Are they having technical issues or is this something I need to look into myself?

    Windows 10

I have read in a few spots online that, according to the new EULA for Windows 10, MS can now search your computer for pirated software and disable it, and automatically install applications of their own choosing, etc. I don't really know if this is true, and I'm not saying that's a bad idea...

I would, Handruin, but I'm using a slimline case so the heatsinks on Ripjaws create clearance issues for me. My DVD drive is sitting right over the memory. Normal profile memory does work alright, but heatsinks push the envelope a bit too far.

So I'm down to 5GB RAM (2x2GB, 1x1GB)right now. I'm going to see if I can scrounge up enough money for a 2x2GB kit as while 8GB is more than enough and 6GB is just about enough, any less than that and I start to feel really cramped, esp. under Windows. Memtest froze twice at the same spot and...

Ugh. So I only found this out because Linux actually USES all my memory (for caching) eventually but when it gets to a certain amount it just locks up. Windows always keeps RAM usage kind of low for me so I've never used enough that it locks up. Time to run memtest86+ and see which module is...

SSDs - State of the Product?

While I admit I have no real need for these high-density storage mediums with my current consumption (honestly, though I'd complain about the speed a single 500GB hard drive would meet my needs admirably) it is rather exciting to see this stuff being made cheaper (well, less astronomically...

I don't actually have a lot to complain about, tbh. It's reasonably priced, decent enough in the speed dept., my ping times are good enough for online gaming, and there's no data cap we can realistically hit.
