    Can't delete a file

It's actually the Explorer trying to read the file to see if it has some info (title etc.) which it would then show at the Status bar. First try to click the file with your mouse once (so that it's selected) and leave the computer alone for few minutes, then press Shift-Delete to remove. If it...

    [NEWS] Asus WinWifi AP

The computer would have to be on to function as an AP? I can't imagine why that would be useful. I'd get a separate AP for that. How many devices can You have without an AP? More than two? Is there a certain reason to use an AP, besides the fact that it's used as a bridge to the "normal" cable...

    Why doesn't anyone make...

This is probably what You'd want as a replacement for the bulky VGA cable... That's mainly for projectors at the moment, with a special M1-DA connector. Max. resolution is XGA (1024x768), but I don't think much larger would be feasible on a 12" screen. Also, the price is listed $500 at the...

Best DVD Burner for less than $200.

I've thought on buying Verbatim DVD+/-R(W) discs once I get one of those drives. I've read that they are one of the best discs available, albeit more expensive than the "bargain" discs. I'm thinking about the Plextor 708A too, it just bugs me that it has only 2 MB buffer... Oh well, just set...

Here's the .PDF from www.formfactors.org. It seems that Intel realized that it's impossible to cool Prescott with air and maintain moderable sound levels if the processor is located as in ATX. So, Intel took the easy way, and designed a new form factor that enables the use of colder air from...

Whats it mean when I get "Pinged"?

I'm on a LAN. I've understood that I should allow: [0] Echo Reply [8] Echo Request [11] Time Exceeded [30] Traceroute [33] IPv6 Where-Are-You [34] IPv6 I-Am-Here for general connectivity (troubleshooting, like Merc mentioned). Anything else? I'm currently blocking all ICMP, but [0] in/out, [8]...

    How long do CDRs last?

Some no-name CD-Rs don't work well at all... Most old medias I have still work, though I have tried/used only a few of very old ones in last two years. Exposure to direct sunlight kills CD-Rs quickly (leave in car etc.). Scratches are the worst enemy to a regular "home" CD-R. As is...

Buying a LCD in the next day and need advice

I've read that HP/Compaq will include only LCDs for their entire [home]line starting Q1 2004. You can ditch the LCD (buy without a screen) and get a HP/Compaq CRT, but You'll have to buy/order it separately. I haven't ever bought one of these "market PCs". Do they come in one or two boxes...

Buying a LCD in the next day and need advice

Display is usually the most valuable part for the ergonomics of the computer. I too used to watch 15" Daewoo @1024x768/85Hz, and boy does it look sucky now. Then I bought Nokia 447Xi (17"), and used it happily for four years (and it's still used in my old computer). I started thinking about...

120 GB HD on a BX board?

Those could be interesting... I have the drive in my old BX system, which is limited to ATA33. Would You really like to see a flat ~30 MB/s transfer rate graph? [PERHAPS I should have tested it first on my newer computer... I was too keen to see if it works or not.] Cheers, Jan

HD size limit for BX chipset

Too early to say anything drastic. I don't have any experience from Seagate Barracuda (IV/V) line, but this drive is really quiet. Sounds more a fan than a HD. I just started a thread @ SilentPCReview about the Samsung SP1213N; if You are interested/want to see my opinions, read it here...

If Honold would still be here, I think that he'd recommend NEC (as he has one)... If You buy an LCD with DVI connector, I suggest strongly to use DVI, if You can. Some LCDs that have both D-SUB and DVI connectors have poor analog components. Or, better say, the image is better with DVI...

HD size limit for BX chipset

I did ask the same question here: 120 GB HD on a BX board? These are both from ABit-USA: Does my motherboard support 75GB harddisk? Does my motherboard support 80GB harddisk? Both of these lists have BH6, and in both lists it's supported. I have a BX6-r2, which is listed only in the 75 GB...

    Anybody remember non-plug n play?

Non-plug-n-play was fun, and if You knew what You were doing You were just fine. IRQs, DMAs and base addresses configured with jumpers were great, as the software then was very IRQ-dependant. All games required sound setup. Nowadays it isn't needed. Only the modem setup is similar with all the...

    Voodoo 5500: worth replacing?

Nice. I try to maintain very low noise, so no OCing for me. IIRC Powerleap is set at the correct voltage (or maybe I just set mine to 1.5V). Removing all the voltage jumpers it drops to 1.3V, which all Tualatins should still tolerate (at least at stock clocks). I had only two jumpers included...
