the loading happens in never winter nights and halo... call of duty has it too I think. It doesnt apear to happen in quake, unreal, halflife games... I dont remember it with battlefield 1942(but the game does require a good bit of RAM -512MB to play smoothly).

some games, simulators for instance, require that things (parts of a map, textures, models, sounds) get loaded mid-game. these can cause slight pauses or skips, but are really hard to measure because they effect the overall fps so little. Like alot of things, it's complex and hard to measure...

I bought two 75gxps in july 2000.. had them striped for over 2 years on promise controllers... have since broken up the array and sold one of the disks... the other disk is in my family's computer and was until recently used for the OS, now it just sits there as a backup if they need anything...

I dont think I've ever been able to do the the quick repair (automated repair process?) in 2k and XP. I have had no problems doing a reinstall ontop of a current OS (which is what used to be referred to as a repair before 2k and XP).

That's 3 Gb/sec, versus S-ATA's current 1.5Gb/sec. In a year or so that'll probably become standard.

i have to think he's lying. He's old enough that he's probably used gas stoves and heaters before (obviously since he has a gas oven). When you light the gas you can easily see how flammable it is. Same thing in a lighter... same thing with a BBQ.... pretty hard to imagine that someone who uses...

i think the RAID 0 tests dont have NCQ, the single drive tests do.

If I recall, anand was one of the 1st places to do a review of the 1st pIII shuttle X-PC's. I think they really helped shuttle get a start by thier high recomendations. Incidentally I did a project in a technical writing class about a year ago that featured the shuttle X-PCs at about $400-$500...

I agree. 5.1 is neccessary to develop a true 3D positional feel. Although 2.1 often does fine for my music needs.

hmm.. dunno, but I'd stay away from OS driven soft RAID 1... it's hit on the PCI bus is worse than the CPU hit with RAID 0.
