    Athlon64 3000 - who's taking the $215 plunge?

SiS makes better chipsets than VIA... depending on what you're doing they have their strengths over Nvidia as well. If I were to pick two chipset makers 1 would be Intel, 2 would be SiS. I could do without the rest.

[NEWS] - Novell offers protection for it's Linux customers

by indemnifying SuSE users, don't you think that will attract customers to novell/SuSe vs things like redhat which are more name brand in the linux server market? Seems like a PR move to me (a smart one).

    Building a Storage Server Thread

hmm, i noticed some odd behavior. I was testing a product called e-smith SMEserver 6.0 when I realized that my bandwidth between my computer<->Dlink switch<-> netgear switch<-> 3com 905 was a wopping 9MB/sec.. plug the server into the D-link switch so that there's one less hop and I get even...

with compression it's usually not that bad... you could also make two ghost images onto a single HDD(something I'd prefer over the CD route for that much data).

    Weird CD-ROM behavior

Disk insert notification is an invention of windows, not of the IDE spec developed many many years before CD-ROMs even existed. I think it's a total BS story.

As I said before, mythTV seems to be designed around bt8x8 and specifically the winPVR cards. Search for winPVR and you'll find myth. The PVR250 is also well supported by myHTPC. I know you can also use a program called Sage recorder So I know there's nothing proprietary about the card...

last time I checked it was only win2k/XP... im glad they have other drivers available, however it still seems like you must install a driver even for 100baseT network mode (this is after reading 4 reviews). It doesnt show up in network neighborhood, instead using a virtual SCSI controller to...

    Is this server stuffed?

I've never used the Asus boards that implement this, but most boards put the fan at 100% for the 1st few moments of poot up to make sure the fans start, then they drop the speed down as temperatures permit. Anything else would have to be component specific and tested or would be a design flaw if...

Why do people love the Barracuda ATA drives?

yup, Maxtor and seagate have jumped on the rebate bandwagon along with WD. There are some nice deals to be had... also, what do you mean about the warrant merc? several versions of the 7200.7 have 3 year warranty, any ATA V you find on the shelves should have a 3 year warranty(I think?). All...

    Is this server stuffed?

I agree, this sounds like the software got stuffed. That may be related to an underlying hardware problem though. If it's been working for 4 years, I would think about reinstalling the OS and make a once over of the inside of the case to make sure it's clean, there are no failed fans, and that...

    Mobile Athlon Chips

CAREFUL the Antec Overture suffers from an extrmemely CRAPPY paint job. The minuet apears to be the same. It scratches VERY easily. I read a review, but didnt believe it till I saw it in the store... not the usual antec quality at all.. very very poor. I could piss a better paint job.

Merc, ati didnt design or manufacture the remote wonder.. they just slapped their name on it and add functions for it in their software. It is made by a company I think called x10 (there is even an x10 folder on the driver disk that came with mine) If you notice there is a palce for an IR...

    Building a Storage Server Thread

That looks less like a storage server and more like something built to handle multiple tasks. That CPU and RAM would be such a waste on a storage server. One thing I notice about this board is the lack of real estate used. Looks like they could have just made it an M-ATX. What will this...
