advice/comments invited: CD/DVD RW drives in ext. enclosures

thanks Merc. that's good to hear. are they USB2 or Firewire? I've read mixed reports about copying CD>CD over USB 1 or 2. some say it works, otyhers have problems with too much CPU utilisation. I bought an external enclosure like the one above for my sister about 6 months ago. it's a Firewire...

advice/comments invited: CD/DVD RW drives in ext. enclosures

in the quest to keep my main PC safe from kiddie hads, I've bene thining about putting my CD & DVD RW drives into external USB2 enclosures and placing them on top of my desk. Firewire enclosures are an option but I prefer USB2 because A) they're cheaper and B) my BIOS supports USB CD devices...

    New toys

the door is lockable yes but the catch is down the bottom of the door. the door is so flimsy though that it flexes so much that the top of the door is an inch off it's seat, and with little effort. a decent pull will break it. I could put a lock with a catch up top I guess but I'm not sure it...

I just bought a few Thermaltake 120mm fans which I plan to run at 7V. they should still be good for 40CFM and be virtually silent. they are going into my new case, an Aopen H700B. I have an Asetek Waterchill kit I want to place inside. I haven't decided whether to locate the rad & fan at the...

    How do people meet people?

Merc. I've spent years around manic depressives and I have been counseled by experts in the field. I do have a good understanding of the nature of your condition. your words and reactions do seem typical of someone going through a period of depression except for one thing, you *are* still...

    [news] - XBIT - Ten DVD-Burners Roundup

I use Ulead's DVD Movie Factory 2 to create all my own DVD's. works great. menu and chapter creation is a breeze and it's powerful enough to allow for some neat designs and styles. I think they have a demo for download too.

Quick question: best Gforce FX5900 card

sorry Tea, I failed to contribuite at all to the topic of this thread. I too agree that the Gainward Golden Sample Ultra/1600 XP would be the fastest. Gainward select the fastest RAM to suit and sell it already overclocked. second to that would likely be the Leadtek 5900U card.

    [news] - XBIT - Ten DVD-Burners Roundup

good call Pradeep. DVDShrink works great on my A06, both v2.3 and v3.b5. the OEM drive (106) should still come with Nero5.5 (at least in Aus it does) and Nero 5.5 can happily burn DVDShrunk rips

    [news] - XBIT - Ten DVD-Burners Roundup

I have the A06 and I'm very happy with it. I've yet to have it fail to write on the various media's I've tried (Verbatim, Melody, Princo, Ricoh & Shintaro. mainly -R & +RW). IIRC, 106 is bundled with almost the same software so you may be better of saving a few $$$ and getting that instead. One...

    Bowling for Columbine

the thing is though, there is no need to defend myself with a gun because the likelyhood of an attacker having a gun is very, very small. now if I were to arm myself despite this very, very small chance I would need to defend myself with a gun, then what's to stop my neighbour arming himself in...

    Photoshop eats my processor...

I'd go the P4 Tea. HT does make an O/S like W2K and XP more responsive and given Photoshop's SMP capabilites it'll definitely be better than a similar spec'd Athlon. Photoshop Elements though is not SMP aware afaik.
