    Time for Heresey!

I like it here because there is not too much people. I can actually keep track of topic and posts. The discussion seems to be more "alive" and I actually get responses to my posts :) . Beyond the reasons Merc enumerated, my main reason for not returning to SR much is that there is too much...

    AOpen Motherboards

Hehe, maybe... Merc, if I judge with my single experience with abit, i would agree with you. I had many problems with the board although i never overclocked. However, some of the problems with abit's may be a result of overclocking or a bad manipulation on the board itself.

    AOpen Motherboards

Gigabyte boards are becoming more and more flashy, with loads of more or less usefull features. It may not affect their quality, but generally, the more you put on the board, the more it may malfunction. Like the DPS they now have (weird slot thingy)... However, many of my recent experiences...

    Disturbing find about Google

I don't think that the point was to prove that google is evil. I think the message is that Google could be used for evil intentions (and that would have huge impacts), so it's worth monitoring. A big market share is always source of concern. Just look at Microsoft... How many people find this...

    SMP in the modern age

You can try to build a dually system with cheap XP's to bring the price down. But the mobo's are just too expensive. Or you can upgrade your MP's on your current mobo. Even better, upgrade with XP's :) .

    SMP in the modern age

I just got an SMP system, a dual Athlon MP 2600. Before I had a single Athlon XP 1800. In "general use" (surfing the net, office work, general system responsiveness) there is no noticable difference between both systems. However, the reason I switched to duallies was for VMWare and there...

Tyan Tiger MPX. Very good setup by the way. Very happy about it. Yesterday, there were wierd problems with F@H because I had a graphical client and a console client. I was having 100% on one CPU and 70% on the other. I dropped the graphical client for another console, and it seems to work fine.

Ok, some good news, some bad news... The bad, is that my Athlon TBird 1333 will not be folding anymore. I sold this machine to my sister. The good, is that my new dual athlon MP 2600 will be folding instead! I have two instances of folding running to harness the power of both processors. I...

[NEWS] - No more "Built by ATI" cards

Well, it's less choice for ATI cards. Before, we had the choice between paying a higher price for an ATI brand name card or pay less for a card made by another manufacturer. The advantage with with ATI cards is that they a standard card based on the reference design. Also, the retail package is...

    Disturbing find about Google

No more development on IE according to Microsoft.

At first I wrote tabbed browsing, but I thought that was the feature's name only in mozilla. I thought the term MDI would be clearer... Is it called tabbed browsing in Opera?

    Avant web browser

The advantage is that you don't have to installer another browser to incorporate these features. So you get the advantages of IE with the features of other browsers. However, in a corporate environnement, every add-on for IE (ie Hotbar) is a potential danger for web applications.
  19. Z

No more development on IE according to Microsoft.

MDI browsing windows must be a feature incorporated in IE. At work, i must use IE (because all the intranet is made with frontpage!). I use at least 2-3 web pages, 2 word documents and 2 outlook windows at the same time. My taskbar is loaded. I'd really like IE to be MDI (word and access also...

[NEWS] Seagate, Maxtor and Hitachi with faulty drives?

Consider the recent move to 1-year warranties... Isn't it strange that Seagate and Maxtor, who have 1-year warranties on (almost) all their drives, have reliability problems. However, it's probably just a coincidence. True or not, it's very bad for PR...

ATI about to launch new P4 chipset.

Nice to see. We may see a very viable integrated solution for the pentium 4, much like the nForce was for the athlon. For speed, let's just say the Intel Chipsets are very hard to beat. I'd also like to see this chipset in notebooks.

[NEWS] - MSI resorts to brute force approach

I would not buy a mobo with that feature. The only advantage I see is variable fan speeds. It would be nice that the mobo also adjusts the fan speed. However, I don't like the idea that they only overclock the processor. I would like it also to underclock, like in notebooks.

    Which IDE controller card?

I have two Maxtor D740X drives hooked on the Ultra100 TX2. The problems are high CPU utilisation and sound problems when there is disk activity. It seems to happen only with writes, like when I save a file or defrag. The computer becomes much less responsive (CPU wise). There seem to be an...

    Memory Upgrade : 256 MB Dimms on a P2L97

The modules are double sided. I checked the latest info on this board and it still supports only 3 128MB dimms for a total of 384 MB. I guess that it can support more, but it's not guaranteed. My board seems to have lots of problems beyond 512MB. The BX supports 256MB modules. Maybe you were...
