Intel release schedule for upcoming Xeon processor

Good idea, Lunar, you're a man after my own heart, what with hackers turning on cameras and spying on the user. You're just as paranoid as I am! I don't have any web cams too.

In parts of the US where acquiring citizenship is not much in demand, it happens very quickly, like in your wife's case. Some states like CA, NY, AZ, TX, NM are notoriously backlogged and it can take 15+ months. I am a naturalized citizen; acquired it in CA in 1994. I had to wait about 17...

Virus Like Activity - 60+ IE Windows Start Opening Up

I've been using MSE for the last 2-3 years and haven't had a problem. I also have Spywareblaster, Spybot and MBAM installed, but these are updated and run only when I think something weird is going on. Never found anything so far. But then, my (and my kid's) surfing habits are relatively safe.

SSDs - State of the Product?

+100! Expect the unexpected. Most important, buy an infant seat well ahead of time, or they won't let you take your child home. I was working 9 days a week and kept promising my wife we'd do the last bit of shopping the last weekend we thought we had. Friday morning we visited the doc, and he...

New inexpensive build - how did I do?

If you buy one of those thingies, check the wiring carefully. On one of my previous builds, a Silverstone USB2 front bay thingy almost fried my then new motherboard when I turned on the power after plugging it in. There was a wisp of smoke, a burning smell. I had the presence of mind to yank it...

    Macbook Pro first impressions

For a "Chinese" company, I guess they're continuing the hallowed traditions of IBM. The latter's support when I owned a Thinkpad in the early 2000's was impressive indeed.

    Remember this stuff?

What is weird is that XP SP3 does not natively support SATA controllers. I find that incomprehensible. Because of this, I had one hell of a problem in December last year trying to convert my old XP install (in the PC that died) into a VM, and a week ago, of trying to clone a PATA XP install to...

    Remember this stuff?

Of course I remember this stuff. I even remember IBM PCs with full height 10 MB hard drives (yes, that's a whole 10 MB). I remember ST-506 interfaces that were a pain. Thanks Merc. Daughter's well past the age of using this stuff; she used it when she was five-ish on till she was about 10. She's close to 17 now. She uses the XP part for doing homework, researching projects, and of course, email, chat and iTunes. The idea was to hand this machine off to my...

    Cloning a disk

I tried with Easus Disk Copy (I guess it's the Disk/Partition copy portion of their Partition Master). The downloaded program only only allows creation of an ISO to be used stand-alone, which is what I wanted. No dice, nothing boots. It appears that either BootMagic and/or Win98 is unable to...

Chewy, the card is bootable; I have booted into WXP from it after cloning. It is W98 that won't boot. I installed the driver for the SATA card into W98 and WXP before cloning, so not a problem there. It is the multi-boot aspect that's getting screwed up. The CloneZilla ISO images don't seem to...

Right; be careful what you wish for! Not dying could be a curse too. In some scriptural epics (in my culture), the very very good are blessed with eternal life (I suppose in a good way), and some very bad ones damned to eternal life. The latter wish to die and end it all, but can't. The most...
