Timing of building a new system

Thanks all, that's reassuring to know. So I'll put those motherboards back in the race. I've collected some review data from the 'egg and am using that as the starting point. Did that with SSDs as well, and the Crucial CT064M4SSD2 64 GB and Intel SSDSA2CW120G3K5 120GB seem the have the best...

Timing of building a new system

Well, I hope so; I'd be going out on a limb assuming it will. Reviews on Newegg indicate visual quality using these converter cable sis a hit and miss. I need "safe & sure-shot" solutions since experimenting will be costly time and money wise. I'll do some more research. Thanks for the inputs...

Timing of building a new system

The project crawls along. Time is the big constraint. If I was in Canada, I'd have asked Coug to build it for me. If I was in the US, I'd have Merc or Buck to do it for me. Many Z68 motherboards have a single HDMI connector on the back; kind of rules them out for me. I need a DVI. I guess there...

    Need an Amp

Pyle was a mfr of PA systems. I would not expect their amps to have the fidelity that would be expected of an audio system. I don't know if they have now diversified into the consumer audio business as well.

Timing of building a new system

I'll give a short answer since I'm at work. The first filter was the display-out port. I eliminated all boards that had zero ports or only an HDMI port. The second filter I'm working on is the # SATA ports; the third will be the # and type of expansion slots. Question: when a mobo mfr says...

Timing of building a new system

Thanks time, I'll check out Crucial. When I was living in the U.S., I bought RAM from them direct several times, and never had a problem. More than the great service they may provide, it's the frequent disruption and corruption I may suffer with an SSD that I'm afraid of. Maybe my fears are...

Timing of building a new system

Yup, DD, that's the world I live in. I could probably buy the processor and RAM in the US since they seldom fail, but mobo and HDD, no way. I might save about 10% by buying at a local shop instead of these guys. I do miss the good prices in the U.S. :( This will end up being a full build, with...

Timing of building a new system

Thanks Coug. Since you're a system builder, your advice is valuable to me. The Sabertooth is warranted at only 3 years here. No luck on the Kingston RAM. :( I can always try to source it elsewhere, though. The website I'm referring to is IT Depot, in case you're curious. One USD = 44.5...

Are all IPad users douchebags? Several people I know who are hardcore Windows types have bought IPads and are very happy with them. I'm tempted myself, but want to wait to see if the Ipad 3 is coming soon as rumored. I might end up being a douchebag meself! ;)

Timing of building a new system

I didn't know there was a 2500k. In terms of chipset, which one is best for these SB CPUs? I would like to have the option of putting in a video card; many reviews seem to state that the on board GPU can't handle Blue-Ray playback. I'm also concerned about getting the correct, fixed revs of...

    Weird APC UPS behaviour

There does not seem to be an option for that. However, the self-test screen of Powerchute says: "Powerchute automatically performs a self-test of your battery backup every 2 weeks and each time you turn on your unit." There is also an option to run a manual self-test.

Timing of building a new system

Points taken; purchase delayed is money saved; there's always something better yet to show up; if one keeps waiting one will never act, etc. At this point I'm more concerned about the bugs and limitations in the SB chipsets. Don't want to end up with a lemon. I had my eye on the i5 2500K, but...

Thanks all. First and foremost, while I welcome all comments, I am constrained by two factors: a) Many items are just not available here; only the fast selling ones are. I'm sure there are boutique shops where one can find everything Newegg sells, but tracking these down across the country...

    Weird APC UPS behaviour

An official APC authorized repair guy came and replaced the two weak / dead batteries with APC branded ones for a little less than 1/4 the original cost of the UPS. Not bad! But he wanted twice the original cost of the extended battery pack to replace 4 batteries in there. I said no thanks...

Many of the newer phones have "gorilla" glass which they claim is unbreakable. You certainly don't want to find out, but I guess it is much, much tougher than the standard stuff. I remember reading a news report about the gorilla glass made by Corning; it was invented several decades ago, but at...

Lightning does not travel inside a house through its wiring; voltage surges caused by it do. And these can be stopped with a properly designed device. The gap is sufficiently large to prevent the current from jumping it.
