I used Quicken once, but it was too much work. Then when things were really tight, I used Excel to do budgeting. Now I use Excel to track my bank account, projected income and projected expenses, etc. So now it's a combination of budgeting plus tracking actuals, all in Excel. Works for me.

I'd suggest you buy one wherever you're going. Many places outside the U.S. make extension strips with universal sockets; that can accept any type of plug. Where is it you will be going?

It is a disease - change for change's sake. Perfectly good designs have changed every year or couple of years - techweb, computerworld, news.com, etc. The only site I think that has improved in usability with changes is the eggy one.

I need to rip specific chapters, actually songs, from music videos. I tried doing one; it took ages, and the results aren't impressive. I used Handbrake with the GUI front-end. Too many options, and I don;t understand most of them. Sigh.

My previous system ran flawlessly for 5 years and is still sitting around, booting up readily when I want it to. It used to be on 14x7. I built my current system in 2006, but it hasn't seen much use.

Me too. I had no idea what that thing was till a mentor kindly explained. This was in the early days of my networking experience. I started out as a business apps guy, then messed with minicomputer OSes, then with networking and HW. It has been an interesting journey!

Terabyte's Image for Win and Image for Dos is what I have. I have only used the latter, but it fits on a single floppy and will burn a CD or DVD, even if it is on a USB port or on FW. I can't comment on the Win part of it, but compared to Ghost, DriveImage, etc., this one's light years ahead.

Some APC UPSes support an external battery pack. I have a BackUPS 1500 with a BR24BP external battery pack; great way to extend run time. The battery pack looks like a smaller UPS, stands next to it, and plugs into the back of the UPS. Have had no issues with either.
