I disagree. People who consider themselves "wholesome" are about as unattractive as it gets; usually religious or otherwise simple minded. What you want is functionally weird. I'm not saying that strippers are it, but that is a lot closer than "wholesome".

    Newegg Shipping, WTF?

Get a PO box from a 3rd party that will sign for packages. Before I had an office with a secretary to inspect and sign for everything that is what I did. A company just down the street will do it for a nominal fee, and I've even taken entire pallets of stuff (though they were anxious for me to...

I'm just using the Amazon Cloud Player app at this point. Most of the music I'm listening to these days is stuff I've aquired recently, which means I got it on Amazon as an MP3 anyway. It is very useful and copies purchases down from the cloud automatically.

Desktop, Notebook, Tablet, Other Tablet, Phone

Any time I'm faced with more than a sentence of typing I wait to reply until I can get to a computer. For the most part I don't travel with a laptop, they are just "compact workstations" in the bedroom and server room. My tablets have also been relegated to music playback devices in the garage...

SSDs - State of the Product?

MLC is worse than SLC, but they were able to mostly overcome the reliability and performance issues while bringing the price down. If they have enough redundancy and integrated checking to keep the reliability where it should be, I don't care what technology they use.

That does look pretty cool. That it can't use steering wheel controls speaks to how difficult such integration must be.

    Modern Speedfan?

Thanks, the thing I want to do is set up a relationship between the speed of fans in the system and the temperature of the components therein. Speedfan isn't detecting the correct temp sensors or fan headers in my work machine (see sig).

I've liked speedfan, but it does still occasionally crash systems. Does anyone here have a preferred alternative? Thanks!

    Mount Nexus 7 in Dash?

If you want a cleaner mount, I really like my ProClip. Edit: Just checked, and they don't have as clean an option as I had, but they look decent enough if you are able to hide the power cable behind trim pieces.

At the moment my complaint is that it thinks my 4Ghz Hexa-Core is only a 7.8; everything else is 7.9. I can get it to 7.9, but need to be at 4.5Ghz, and that gets a bit loud.

    Mount Nexus 7 in Dash?

The steering wheel controls were what finally convinced me to leave the radio. Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, it looks like this, no? I mounted the Android in front of the radio, dremeled a hole in the frame, and wired directly into the back of the stereo. Not as clean...

Windows needs to up the max score on their performance index to at least 11, 'cause, you know, mine would go to eleven.

    Mount Nexus 7 in Dash?

I had this idea for a while, and finally decided to leave the head unit in place and wire in an Android device as an auxiliary input and mount it to the dash. This way most things still work just as they did (Bluetooth for calls, steering wheel controls, radio, cd player, etc).

Here is the product page, but it seems that Verizon replaced the Samsung app store with there even crappier one and replaced Navigon with their own VZ Navigator which really sucks. I think I'll just roll with CoPilot.

Another mass build and some hardware thoughts

Thermal mass is your friend. I have the walls of the server room filled with steel racks full of old towers (nothing flammable). Once they are all chilled to the 65F (18C) I keep the room at, they can absorb the heat of the servers for hours with just a fan running.

Another mass build and some hardware thoughts

Interesting. My boss loved me going to VMs; 5 racks in the server room and 3 of them empty. He takes people in there and literally stands in one of the empty racks to make the point of how energy efficient we are.

Just installed it when Merc linked to it (I hadn't heard of it before). Works well, seems to be a straightforward UI with one exception. For some reason it has its own predictive text input that conflicts with the predictive text input on the phone, causing duplicate text.

While in use, wireless connection suddenly reverts back to default settings!

It is quite possible that Verizon did a firmware update on your router (or something similar) that caused it to revert to default settings. It might be in the logs, but I doubt it.

You don't need 500W+ if you get a good one and have a "normal" workstation. My wife's new box draws 16W at the wall (22 under load). Coug is right JTR, let that thing die. I'll send you the bits you desire for some more LED goodness.

Actually, I have the 17-40/4L (no IS). I also have the 10-22, 40/2.8 and the 50/1.4 in that range. The 85/1.2LII is certainly on it's way out, and the next lens up is the 100/2 then the 180 Macro before the Sigma 175-500 crap lens. I think even without anything between the 50 and the 100 I...

    VMWare Workstation 9 in production?

I'm familiar with this autostart option, it was in VMWare server and ESXi, but seems to be missing from Workstation. I suspect that there is some way to do it via a script of some kind. Snapshots will probably work fine for backups, and can probably also be scripted. Connecting to each machine...

    VMWare Workstation 9 in production?

I do think virtual is the best way in this scenario. An office with 4 full-time employees requires 3 servers as it is currently configured. One of those servers is 2000 and can't be upgraded due to the application on it. Right now my biggest complaint is that one of the VMs is maxing the CPU...
