    Beverages

Kudos to DrunkenBastard. Finished a bottle of Tanqueray the other night, and as it's stinking hot, I thought I'd try some Bombay Sapphire tonight. Man is that good! Tonic, ice and a couple of slices of ripe lime. Definitely hits the spot. Cheers DB.

    Home NAS

Is anybody using NAS at home? It used to be that my main rig was powered on all the time. So storing files on one of its local drives meant they were available to all other machines. A few weeks ago, I decided to enable sleep & hibernate, but if the machine is in hibernate mode, it disappears...

    HannsG 28" monitor...

<Threadjack> I've just started using two monitors at work. And for some things it's great, but I find the mouse travel it bit tiresome, plus the fact that the task bar is only on one monitor, makes bringing the application I want into focus a little bit tiresome sometimes. I find I'm typing in...

    Yet another Norton Sucks thread

I agree with Time that the very existence of a tool to remove Norton available from Symantec is proof positive that their uninstall routine is crap. Slow disk

I had a Samsung drive (new--factory fresh) a couple of years ago that passed all tests, but it's transfer rates as measured by a couple of benchmarks never surpassed 3MB/s--should have been 60MB/s. RMAed the drive. I think I posted about it here.

Need an audio mixer compatible with Win 7

I used to use Nero SoundTrax from Nero 6 on XP as my audio mixer and Nero Wave Editor as well. But the move to Windows 7 has me stumped. Nero 6 (well SoundTrax and Wave Editor) won't run on Windows 7, and frankly, the idea od shelling out $100 to "upgrade" to the bloatware that is Nero 9...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Simple supply and demand. At least the U.S. is getting some shipments. Mostly out of stock down under. But the prices are just rude. When I can buy an 80~128GB drive for under AU$200, I'll bite.

SSDs - State of the Product?

And that gets back to my earlier question about TRIM wearing out an SSD faster. It seems like you can have performance or longevity. And another thing struck me, SSD's would be poor as swap drives or scratch pads, or in any situation where frequent re-writes of the same data happens. Or am I...

I'm not convinced of the whole netbook idea at all. My idea of an ultraportable runs to something like the HP DV2z, slightly larger than the 10" Asus, but thinner. It also boasts a 12.2" LED screen--1200x800--discrete graphics, standard peripherals. OK battery life won't be near as good, but...
