    Aggravation building new computer

Sheesh. My daughter had an old PC she uses for gaming (kiddie stuff). She recently got a Dell P4 hand me down which I set up for her, migrated W98 and installed Dell's OEM XP as a dual boot. XP works flawlessly on it, but a once stable W98 SE (on the old m/c) keeps crashing. I hadn't had the...

Your favorite browser is now v1.5

What's with 1.5? I installed it over 1.0.7, and nothing happened when I tried to launch it. Then uninstalled both 1.0.7 and 1.5 and reinstalled 1.5, again nothing happened. Uninstalled 1.5 and reinstalled 1.0.7, and am using that now. Grrrrrrrr. Anybody have a clue?

Adding front USB 2.0 ports to an old box.

Sabrent quality is questionable, in my experience. My PC has 2 USB-1 ports in the back. I have a USB 2.0 PCI card in my PC, and have done what Andy did - have a 6-foot USB 2.0 extension cord plugged in the back and coming out to the front. May not be pretty, but works great for me.

A list of sw known to work with S2003 would be awesome; maybe it can be in a new thread in the Toolbox Ref. Section? Not that I have the moolah for a new system or for S2003.. :D Tannin'll be happy to know I'm still on Coppermine/W2k!

    Why Windows Causes Stupidity

Another quaetion: some sw will not install on a "server" OS; it's also difficult to get drivers to run on server OSes. Have these issues been a problem with 2003?

Sheesh, I forgot to add that the AGP slot in the Dell is 1.5V as well. There are too many damn variables. Check out these links: ATI KnowledgeBase - AGP Compatibility. Says 9800 uses 1.5V, 0.8V signalling, is 4X, 8X compatible. AGP Compatibility

Gigabyte GA-7DXR+ With Radeon 9800 pro?

I have a Gigabyte 9600XT (8x/4x) running in a 4x/2x AGP slot (Intel D845PT in a Dell Dimension 4400). Works flawlessly. Incidentally, Gigabyte's website lists it as an 8x (only) card. Are you having problems? I went with a 9600 because the 9800 gulps a lot more power and the power supply in...

Thanks everybody, for the sound advice. Yup. The three oldies certainly have. Strangely, the spare looks to be in excellent condition. Windows Update sending private data to MS

Sheesh, you're right Mark, sorry about that. I followed a link to get there, and didn't see the date; getting blind and inattentive in old age! Is this still happening, though? The main reason this is nesworthy is because MS insists it's not sending any data back other than patches already...

Vets seem to hurt about as much as they help. We had an American Spitz that we got as a puppy. Gilbo, generally agree with what you said. Digicams have very good depth of field, so longer shots are usually in focus. This being a close-up, focussing mattered more.
