    Scanner recommendations for photos

I'm with Sol. I rather suspect that mono laser printers are now down to that fine art of manufacturing knowledge such that you can buy just about anything and it will be just fine. But I usually sell Xerox or Kyocera or someimes Canon. For scanners, always Canon. There may be (probably are)...

    TrendSecure?

NOD32 has the most ridiculous marketing method I have ever heard of. You have to do 15 minutes extra work per copy just to get paid. (Ask Time about this - he has posted the arcane procedure here soimewhere.) Until they get their act together marketing-wise, NOD32 - No way! I really only have...

    I hate dynamic disks.

I never, ever use them. Never learned to trust them - no special knowledge, just generalised fear and loathing. Seems like paranoia is indeed a reasonable basis for forming policy.

    TrendSecure?

We are still selling Trend, but it used to be 100%, now it's down to about 50/50 with Norman AV. Same reason as Sol - it's getting bloaty. If I wanted f**^%ing Norton bloatware, I'd buy it.

    Best 20" LCD display

If you can live with a mere 21 inch 1600 x 1200 with analogue and DVI, I'm very impressed with Tea's Samsung 214T. So happy that I am (a) not going to punish her for spending all that money, and (b) going to order another one to use at the office.

What's the latest and greatest in anti spyware?

I tell 'em. Whether they listen or ignore me, I don't care. If they ignore me, they will have to give me more money to do more work on their system soon enough. If they listen, I have lots of other work to get on with. But mark this well, victim nazis, it is nearly always ignorance and lack of...

New SanDisk Extreme III 12 GB and 16 GB Compact Flash

Yup. I fully expected to see a 1D IIn replacement announced this week. People say that Canon plan to unify the 1Ds and 1D lines, and that this next release will do that. Maybe, though I can't really see it. Either way, I'll have to wait a bit longer before deciding if I'm going to go that way...

    Samsung WDC buyout rumor

Huh? There is nothing at all wrong with Samsung's RMA process. Vastly better than WD's, especially insofar as Samsung actually send you replacement drives that function as hard drives (i.e., working ones) not bricks (I've had more than a couple of effectively DOA RMA replacements from WD)...

    ISP detecting ICS

I'd look at using an uncommon sort of firewall/router - i.e., one that they won't recognise right away. A Smoothwall is a good, cheap, and very effective way to do this. What a shame you can't simply give the bastards the flick and get another ISP.
