Huh? There is nothing at all wrong with Samsung's RMA process. Vastly better than WD's, especially insofar as Samsung actually send you replacement drives that function as hard drives (i.e., working ones) not bricks (I've had more than a couple of effectively DOA RMA replacements from WD)...

The 300GB Samsung drive in my system reliably stores roughly 300GB more data than a 600GB Western Digital. If that's obsolete, I'll take it thanks.

I'd look at using an uncommon sort of firewall/router - i.e., one that they won't recognise right away. A Smoothwall is a good, cheap, and very effective way to do this. What a shame you can't simply give the bastards the flick and get another ISP.

Thanks guys, I didn't have the IP addresses handy. But after a while it occurred to me to reset my hub, reboot the smoothie, and wander into the kitchen for a slice of toast. Oh, and reset the cable modem too. When I got back, everything was normal again. I'm guessing the Smoothie lost the plot...
