    Terrestrial Engineering. Objections?

How do you feel about dams? Read my signature ;) As for why I write that, I have seen lots of scientific research that indicates (in some cases quite strongly) global warming exists. I have seen nothing reputable that proves it. Most scientists I have spoken to, or seen quoted in reputable...

    Terrestrial Engineering. Objections?

A question, Mark, if I may. What would be your stance if tomorrow a FTL (Faster Than Light) drive was discovered that allowed humans to take to the stars. If we came across planets that could support life, but required similar amounts of terraforming to support our life, would you sanction the...

    Terrestrial Engineering. Objections?

Modelling that I have seen by the Bureau of Meteorology/CSIRO indicate that between latitudes 20~40 South, will get drier. Other latitudes will get wetter. Lake Eyre is a salt pan. When it is dry, there isn't much living in the basin (it is the middle of a desert after all). Around the edges...

    Terrestrial Engineering. Objections?

I'm interested in moral/philosophical/environmental objections to this idea (ignoring the engineering). Australia is the driest inhabited continent on Earth. If global warming is occurring, we can expect Aus to get drier. Proposal. Open Lake Eyre to the sea. For those that don't know, Lake...

    Intel strikes back

Actually, I did some digging and Intel's 65nm process is not bulk Si like all their other processes, but Si-Ge from what I'm seeing. Germanium in the matrix is supposed to enable faster switching transistors, the numbers I'm seeing thrown around are 30~40%. I'll have to do more digging.

Yes. FAB 36 (next to FAB 30 in Dresden) has started 65nm production with parts shipping for revenue due July/August. Chartered Semi in Taiwan (FAB 7) has also started production of 65nm chips—1 000 wafer starts/week, which as near as I can figure is about 7% of AMD's total production, ramping...

Just in case you've been living under a rock, AMD released Socket AM2 Athlon FX/64/Sempron 64s using DDR2. My cheat sheet. * DDR2 is only faster than DDR400 when you get to DDR2-800 and use ultra low latency DDR2 800. * The caveat to this appears to be video encoding/latest games (read huge...

So long as the HX had suitable Tag RAMS's onboard it could cache up to 256MB. Some cheapie manufacturers only had 6-bit tag RAM's, and it would only cache 64MB. Some BIOS's needed a large cache setting as well. You Matrox card probably only has 1MB or 2MB of VRAM--not enough.
