    Athlon64 3000 - who's taking the $215 plunge?

I happened to notice that htpcnews just posted a review of that very board, an gave it a 5/10. I didn't read it , but thought just in case you were interested in comparing notes.

    Trouble Shooting Advice

A few suggestions: - look for bad caps - look at the CPU socket or the bottom of the CPU for broken pins - is it possible you cracked the Barton core when installing? - put the Tbred back in and try, if it works, any BIOS upgrade to recognize Barton chips.....okay, having just looked at the...

    Handy Restitution?

I suppose that this should have been appended onto this thread, or perhaps just as easily in this one. Regardless, while glancing at headlines tonight, I spied this following story: MSI Reaffirms Mainboards' Durability. I instantaneously thought of my own and Doug's misfortune of owning an MSI...

80 MB/sec not enough on today's SCSI controllers?

MVB (manual variable basis) as well. I notice a distinct, but short lived, improvement for opening up Explorer. Booting doesn't seem to make a difference...but then again, when I boot up (W2K), I usually go get a fresh pot of coffee going or empty the dishwasher or do something else of remote...

80 MB/sec not enough on today's SCSI controllers?

I'm in complete agreement. My post was to further highlight the fact that the next generation disks are not, as you said, a great deal faster then 80MBps.

80 MB/sec not enough on today's SCSI controllers?

For illustrative purposes, the Maxtor Atlas 10K V apparently provides 89-52MBps

    Blu-Ray adopting two new codecs

Of course SD, but I believe that you've misread the above comments, as no one has said anything of the different. Already available in the corporate market for backups I believe ...very $$ I image.

    Blu-Ray adopting two new codecs

Indeed, and this was what prompted my comment on what the affects on AOD camp might be. IMO, the advanced video codecs were really the only selling point that AOD had in their hand. Of course they are always quick to point out "HD-DVD is cheaper to make and compatable with existing production...

    Blu-Ray adopting two new codecs

Sony (and friends) have been pretty aggressive lately in regards to the forthcoming (slash somewhat already here) Blu-ray optical spec/format. The adoption of MS's VC-1 (formerly known as VC-9, but SMPTE apparenty decided on calling it VC-1....whatever) and MPEG-4 AVC High Profile is great news...

But at the same time Tea, there are many who would like nothing better then to get into the cockpit of the dirtiest plane available....and quite often, the rides on the dirty planes are lots and lots of fun.
  24. C

    SD or AXDA?

Scratch that. There is a 3000 model with 1MB L2, in the DTR variety. Hmm, but was there ever a 1MB vanilla flavour too? In other news, I see there's a 2700 DTR version now too.
  25. C

    SD or AXDA?

Okay, quick search shows its always been the 3200@2000MHz@512KBL2.
  26. C

    SD or AXDA?

Yes, yes, yes, that's all good and all, but what I'm saying is that there is definitely two versions of the 3200 -- 3200@2200MHZ@512KBL2 and 3200@2000MHz@1MBL2....further, wasn't the 3000 initially a 1MB L2 chip too?
  27. C

    SD or AXDA?

Ummmmm, the swimsuit competition? (What's that? You say there's no swimsuit competition?? Well a fat lot of good this industry is!) I forgot about there being two versions of the 3200. Come to think about it, isn't there two versions of the 3000 too?

    Walmart's $598 ECS Wonder-Laptop

Bah, any techie worth their salt knows that you just bought yourself an expensive floppy drive. :D Anyways, the the non-definitive information on Dell's users forum seems to suggest its in reference to the laptop being equiped with DVD decoding software....stupid Occam's Razor.

Should I buy a Seagate HDD?

NCIX has had them for a while. But they still don't have the "C"'s :x Vibe has also been carrying Samsungs for a while (both "N" and "C" variants). Have noticed other B.C. or AB stores also seem to stock them. Why there is nothing is downtown T.O is beyond me. And I'm certainly not...

    Who's using Mozilla?

I skimmed through a bunch of the "Return AND Receipts" threads on Mozillazine last night. There were a number of references to some email standards type documents, and the...

    Who's using Mozilla?

Yep. Setup your Yahoo account in TB. In the "Server setting" section for that account, use "local host" (or 127.0.0.1 .... which is the same as localhost) for server name, 110 for port (the standard POP port), and your Yahoo user name in "user name". Don't worry about SMTP settings, as you...

They are good boards. I mentioned it before, but in case you were unaware, pressing Cntl-F1 on the main BIOS screen gives you access to the hidden BIOS features (mem timings etc). I think its Cntl-F4 for the Nvidia board...can't remember.

I (primarily) use two Cuda IVs. Ditto what electronic doggie said about them. My personal biases (and I assure you that I am completely in no position to provide any type of informed opinion): WD - too inconsistant in terms of noise for me to bother with them. Raptors don't interest me for...
