CrazyBrowser - IE fans, you guys have to try this

There is a difference between having a bugfix, and having a bugfix that itself has been certified and tested as bugfree.

The coming end of Moore's law due to power dissipation

That's why Moore's Law is not a law... The original observation by Moore was that (at Intels then current rate of chip development) transitor density doubled about every 24 months. He later revised that estimate to 18 months, and the concept got carried away so that people start...

    Windows X·P Service Pack ---> 1 <--- Available

If its still there, I'm getting a "too many connections" error at 1222 GMT. Why I'm even trying this hard, when I probably won't even get around to installing it until sometime next week.

    Windows X·P Service Pack ---> 1 <--- Available

More like Microsoft got wind of so many people hitting a site that was limited to specific customers. Getright failed overnight for me with a "Not Allowed" error. I'd bet that people with authorized access to that server can still get it. Not that it matters much, if even one person (with...

Tom's Guide©™ to Mudslinging and Martyrdom

AFAIK, He never claimed it did. IIRC, Tom was still a medical student when he first started his hobby site; nobody expected it to take off as a business in its own right. His status as a doctor is irrelevant, what made it an interesting gimmick for his site in the early days was the idea...

    WindowsXP-PE

You have to have the OEM Preinstallation Kit. It is apparently a variation on building a custom install for XP.

    PC Customers 101…..Know thine enemy!

This probably goes without saying, but having owned two Logitech wireless mice in the past... one important step should be to put fresh batteries into the mouse. On more than one occasion that has helped clear up symptoms that seemed to be coming from another area. ===== Type 15: The...

How Did You Stumble Across The [S]torage [R]eview Website ?

It was pre-June 1998. And I think I found SR searching for hard drive information thru AltaVista, back when it was considered the search engine of choice. I don't remember exactly when I started visting the site, but I know the date I was hooked on SR: June 28th, the day the review for...

    Revisiting the website graveyard

Hmmm, negative? Me? My apologies, I was trying to steer the conversation away from what seems to be a trend towards unneccessary site bashing... not just here, but in other forums I've frequented. But as you say, this is not a matter of pride; and I quite understand the sense of...

    Revisiting the website graveyard

Still goes a long way to place it in the "website graveyard". AFAIK it is still a functioning site... whether it is good or bad may be up for debate. There are certainly better review sites out there, and there are just as certainly much worse ones. At the very least Tom's articles...

    beyond the 4 ide channels......

My apologies for taking this further off-topic. It doesn't matter who started it, what matters is how you look in the way you handle it. And FWIW Groltz's did not come across to me as "bad attitude". The initial comments may have been short, but they were far from rude, and rather close...

Is the DellDude an IDIOT or What?

I don't hate the Dell Guy, "Steve" He's just an actor playing a part, and apparently doing a good enough job that you all recall the commercials. That's what they are supposed to do... for better or worse they still get name recognition out to the mass market. And I'd bet most of the...

Episode 2 : Attack of the Clones

(I haven't gone to see it yet, hopefully next weekend) Actors can only act as well as the Director (and script) allows them to. The original movies were pushing the limits of "technology" for their time as well, look at how much of the effects and scenes from eps 4-6 were made up as...

    Major IE Security Patch

catch-22... If they refocus on security and release no patches, people would say they are still lax on security. However, if they do start releasing patches, people will parade that in front of them as meaning they are still lax on security.

    Spyware at home is revolting.

Worse, it looks like some form of online scam. Trying to do a quick google search on "stealth eyes" results in either spam links posted to various mailing lists (notable becuase each spam links back to a different dummy web-site). Or a set of dummy fronts for some "background check"...

    AMDs MOESI cache

I am not even a CPU neophyte, but it has always seemed to me that AMD and Intel were travelling down different roads to the same destination. Now that Intel is trying to move further away from x86, while AMD is trying to extend it, do they seem to have diverged. To me, it seems less like...

    Mobile ClawHammer

This is the first I've really heard/thought about it, but we can extrapolate some things about it based on the current plans for the desktop Clawhammer: (Just my opinion...) Hardware: Pin-count increased from 462 to 754. Integrated DDR memory controller Integrated North Bridge...

Changing the name of StorageForum.net to...

Mecurtio, Thanks to a login timeout, you are spared a long point to point rant regarding your arguments against having a .sex domain... :) Instead I will try to address your points (and the original topic) with a few of my own feeble opinions. I early on thought that .sex was a good...

My first few hours with XP

Re: Plus la change... Found this with a quick google search: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics] "Shell Icon BPP"="16" "Shell Icon Size"="32" I assume that setting is for 16-bit displays, but it should give a start for where to look to fix the setting.

My first few hours with XP

Plus la change... When Windows 95 came out, Windows 3.1 users complained that things didn't work the same way anymore. When Windows NT came out, Windows 95 users complained that things didn't work the same way anymore. When Windows ME/2000 came out, etc... Now Windows XP is here, and...

My first few hours with XP

Technically that is not a crack... Its a workaround using files from a different build. (hey, what happened to the smiling demon emoticon?) Start->Run->cmd.exe or under Program Files->Accesories->Command Prompt It should also be in the system32 directory, if you still can't find it, try...

    Burning Linux ISO images

What do you mean "doesn't recognize the extension"? I have version 5.5.4.0, and it (and higher versions) will recognize and load ISO files when you go to Burn Image on the file menu. You may have to specifically point Nero to the ISO file, but once you do it will burn it to CD properly...
