Who said Western Digital drives were unreliable?

I went midevil on a Canon s400 about two years ago. Snapped the parts back together and threw away the little plastic bits and springs on the floor and the printer actually worked better. Even if the thing was trash I would have felt better due to the percussion therapy / maintenance. Office...

    Opinions on Supermicro

I like my P4SCT a lot, have not heard of anyone having problems with this board. The software monitoring/admin package is really nice too although I wish they had a lite version. Have not dealt with their RMA department but I got several questions answered quickly from them.

SMC Switch died, need recomendations on a replacement.

Hmm. Thanks for the input, that's why I originally got the SMC. There are some Dell Powerconnect 3024's on ebay starting at $120, will keep an eye on them. I do only need two gigabit ports, the rest can just be 100.

SMC Switch died, need recomendations on a replacement.

What I am hoping for is some suggestions on some higher end stuff that I can scour eBay for used. I know some of you are in IT or at least in the know, would apriciate some suggestions. So anyway what I "had" was a SMC 8505T 5 port Gigabit switch that suports jumbo frames up to 9000. The...

External enclosure and delay write failed

I just had a similar problem only with USB 2.0 and it turned out to be the cable. Also if you are using Norton the auto protect locks up the system for a long time while it scans files for viruses in the new files you just created with the backup. Not a problem with small files but if you move a...

    IDE hard drive poll

I am liking Western Digital, with the exception of one 74 Raptor I havn't bought drives from them in about a year and a half though, which seems to be where the problems are. Still have lots of their drives around. The WD740GD is quiet, I can't hear it's idle in an Antec Sonata and the seaks are...

    Storing Data DVDs

CD's and DVD's have a little ridge around the clamp zone in the center. That little ridge seperates the rest of the disks by a small amount when they are stacked.

I read some comments somewhere (might have been this forum) that some types of sleeves react chemically with the disk and discolor and maybe destroy them.

    Ali M5641 48Bit LBA?

Update: Turns out it was my cable. Don't know why but this drive doesn't like this one cable I was using. The cable worked on my other drives so I didn't think anything of it, swapped the cable later on though and now seems fine. Moved a couple 4 gig files to it no problem.

    Newegg is dead to me

I have a feeling that Newegg started that policy because they were loosing out bigtime with the manufacturers not returning or taking forever on RMA's. Also if you remember Newegg used to sell a lot of refurbished white box motherboards (I bought a few) with no acessories at a much lower price...

Hmm, I might be reading it wrong but you might need a card to make it boot from the Marvel. Go get the manual and look at page 1-10 first paragraph. This might be the card that goes into that blue slot that I don't have (not blue anyway).

External Firewire 400 Enclosure for 3.5" Hard Drive

Do you know the chipsets behind those triumph enclosures? I did a quick google on the "bytecc ME-320U2F" enclosure and coudn't see what chip they are using for the USB portion. I think what they are trying to tell you is that the Oxford 911 only does the firewire part which is true.

I have been doing some research on this recently after getting a crappy enclosure. There are a lot of cheap enclosures out there now. DVD Burner Recommendations?

I hear great things about the NEC 3500. Myself I just got a Pioneer DVR-A08XL. I was impressed that I can now burn my DVD-R at 12x and they play fine on my set top player where as my Sony DRU530a could only go up to 4x before they wouldn't read on my set top player. Review...

    Ali M5641 48Bit LBA?

Well it turns out it's crap. Lots of disconnects and "delayed write failures." Tried a WD800JB and a 300g 7200.8 with it and got the same results. My other two USB 2.5" drives have no problem whatsoever. One is Oxford 911 and the other is god knows what, but it works fine. One vote for the...

Good question. Under the Transparent Tunneling option it says it's using the option for IP sec over TCP with a box that has 7000 filled in. There is another option for IP sec over UDP (NAT/PAT) with no port listed. In the old version neither one made a difference for my problem but.... Good...

I was doing it this way because I run a webserver, FTP and like to connect to the machine remotely to do things while I am away.
