Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

Hmm, just sold my Dell Insiporn 8200 lappy, and may have the funds to go down the Opteron route. Definitely will be getting me one of those shiny K8W mobos, had good experience with the TigerMP and dual AthlonXPs. Might just rip out the mobo and cram the K8W in this Antec case, if the PSU will fit.

Bang for the buck in AMD's 64-bit CPUs

I don't think socket 940 is going to kick the bucket, the difference is that socket 939 will allow use of non-ECC/registered memory or something like that. 940 will continue to be used for ECC/registered. Or single/dual channel memory. Or I could be completely wrong.

Buck you definitely need to upgrade your receiver to DD/DTS to get the full effect of the pod race. I couldn't believe the switch from plain DPL to the stereo surrounds of DD/DTS. The way I saw it was that originally Iraq and Saddam were going down because of the reputed links to AlQueda etc. Now when the evidence for this was not forthcoming, things moved on to WMD. You know Colin showing the mobile labs etc. Nothing has been found. After that, we finally come to...

    Saddam Hussein captured.

The reason the US hasn't moved on North Korea is that 1) no oil, and most importantly 2) it has plenty of missiles that can lob a nuclear warhead right into downtown Tokyo. Assuming they do have warheads, like the Iraqis did..... I was reading the other day that a lot of the shitty intel that...

A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are all those clocks?" St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will...

    GSM Cell phones

With Verizon, you need to hit a code combo to update the PRLs (Preferred Roaming Lists). This is so the phone knows who to roam to when not on the Verizon towers. The benefit of updating the lists is not apparent for most people, it only effects small areas where cell companies are changing...

I don't think there is any DVD that has 7.1. There is no consumer spec for it. Best would be DTS-ES with discrete surround back. Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

Actually the Tiger MP worked well, it was the initial Thunder K7 that had some issues. The follow up to the Tiger MP, the Tiger MPX in fact had more problems, such as non-functioning USB, piss poor 32bit PCI performance etc. Dell SB had 400SC servers with 2.4GHz 800FSB P4, 40GB HDD, 128MB DDR...

The +RW formats are up to 4x speed now, which means a write speed of a bit over 5MB/sec. That means a full 4.37 GB in about 15 mins. Sure beats swapping CD-R's :) I guess you have come across the reliability factor of running four drives in RAID 0. So you are going to go the Xeon route?

    Video Noobie

Yup MMC is what comes with the AIWs, it can be dl'd from the ATI site. To setup an AIW, you need three sets of drivers, one is the device driver set that lets Windows know all the crap on the AIW, the second is the Catalyst drivers, and thirdly the MMC drivers.
  35. Pradeep

    Video Noobie

The AIWs have TV-tuners, and the later models (7500 and up) have RF remotes, allowing you to basically use it like a Tivo and pause live TV, move the mouse, click etc. If you already have a tv tuner, have no need for one or the remote, then a VIVO will do just fine.
