Actually, what appears to be the bigger issue is that the vast majority of videos I've tried to stream don't conform to something that wants to display on an ipad's screen and thus error out. I used Handbrake to resize some videos to the proper dimensions for an ipad and those stream just fine...

The thingy I've found works well is Sysinternals Disk2VHD. VHDs are a standard image format that are used by tons and tons of Microsoft tools and everybody else supports using or converting them to a native format as well.

I'm not sure the files would be identical. As I understand it, purchased audio files are pretty much always watermarked so that distribution can be tracked.
