    Home networking question

Thanks guys. A few models of Ubiquity are available here, but are terribly expensive. As I said in my first post, only reason I'm still going to have the telco broadband is because it's bundled with voice and I'll save ~ 70% on voice costs this way. Since broadband is anyway available, I might...

    Home networking question

Not sure I understand, DD. Buffalo Master is connected to the DSL modem now, so it will need WAN config to connect to WAN directly. Anyway, surprisingly the guys came, strung the cable, and another guy came, configured everything, checked it, and left. The WAN Ethernet cable is connected to a...

    Home networking question

I don't need something that sophisticated, Merc. If it wasn't for the need for voice services, I'd just have given up the entire telco connection. Since I'll be having it, wanted a "throw the switches" sorta manual backup.

    Home networking question

This is a question about using two ISPs interchangeably (when one goes down). I currently have a local telco as my ISP, DSL over copper, 8 mbit down, 0.7 mbit up, 100GB bandwidth. There is a DSL modem connected by Ethernet cable to my ancient G-class 54-mbit Buffalo Router/Wi-Fi (called Master)...

For the last 10 odd years, whenever I open a bank account or cc, I explicitly make sure that they don;t send any paper to my physical address. I won't deal with anyone that will not send me statements etc. by email. I'm very good with sorting soft copies and storing them appropriately and...

Major Qualcomm chip security flaws expose 900M Android users

This is the approach I take. What's worrying is that even on the desktop, repeated vulnerabilities are found with https, and internet financial transactions are something that will be extremely difficult but not impossible to live without.

Valid points, all. Happy that my post sparked off a frenzy of comments :) I'm excited because electric buses will solve two big problems here: pollution and noise. I just got done creating two W10 VMs, both W10 Home, one 32-bit and one 64-bit, just for grins. Two is plenty for me. 72 would drive me nuts! I still have a couple of W7 keys left, which I'll hang on to for my next build when this PC dies. I'll probably just buy the W10 upgrade at that time.
