    Database server on VM

I setup a client running 7 or servers under XenServer and the XenSenver itself and all VMs boot from SAN. They are using a smallish Sage accounting package and Citrix. So they're willing to test it "on a dedicated server with 40G of RAM" and I presume dedicated disks but they are unwilling to...

    Whither the Art of Negotiation?

Its all about tolerance man. People don't think they have the right to tell you what the item is worth. Negotiation has roots in disagreement. Nobody wants to be seen as disagreeable these days.

This surprises you? I'm not sure people are completely lazy but certainly intellectually lazy. BTW, I had the same thing happen to me last week though the listing was a couple of weeks old.

    How far do you go?

Yeah that's where the sales part of your job comes in. To communicate clearly and effectively the ramifications of their decisions. Sometimes they have to say no because it is not in their budget but at least you have given them enough information for their risk assessment. But you are right...

    Which Car?

Have you considered buying out the lease on the Sienna. Forget a truck chassis, in five years it will be even more difficult to get rid of a truck. I've been looking at late 90s Honda Accords 'cause I only want to spend about $3k and I can't fit into smaller Hondas or any of the Nissans. I...

File Area Networking (FAN) - Data storage solutions

You are overcomplicating the issue. If you have a SAN you will have enough storage space that you only need one file server. Provide access to all of your data through a single drive letter and manage access to files with permissions.

And that is really what it boils down to isn't it, what you use. FWIW, I'm much more an engineer and less an admin. I also don't play on my computer; I work on it. I don't often change my IP on a day to day basis but when I'm doing an installation I can be in there every 5 minutes for an...

You can get kits at Circuit City that will result in free modem and 6 months of cable at a reduced rate after mail-in rebates and self install. It's HOT

You need some roommates! I "converted" my living room and dining room into bedrooms so the upstairs is 3 bedrooms, 2 bath and a kitchen. The floor of the finished basement is partially removed so that I could pour some footers and fix the structural problems.

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

Those are interesting concepts. BTW, the energy efficiency of double paned windows is from the argon gas sealed between the panes. Convection occurs in any space and in fact a larger space would be better than a smaller space. It does distort the view more though.
