NASA mission sets world speed record

We do, but 100 metres in the context of the discussion makes no sense. So what exactly were you talking about? HyShot certainly went higher than 100 metres into the the air. So rockets are cheaper than planes. Not by the factor of the differences in budgets - which was my original post...

NASA mission sets world speed record

Strawman argument. The atmosphere is too thin for anything to "fly" - aerodynamics - at 100 miles. If I was trying to test out a new concept - I'd choose the the cheaper offering, and spend the savings on more flights, improving the engine, whatever. It seems you are being argumentative for...

NASA mission sets world speed record

Not by the factor of the difference in budgets/resources it isn't. BTW, my 1/100 figure was just pulled out of my arse. But the HyShot budget is tiny, I'm betting NASA's isn't.

    Cleaning up spyware

Saw this link over on Ace's. Apparently this little proggy will tell you which program has a particular file or directory open. I've used some of SysInternals stuff before. http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml

Not using IE. Hear, hear. Nothing against IE, in fact I like it, but I have had had far less trouble (like zero) since switching to alternative browsers. Mozilla/Phoenix/Firebird/FireFox for more than twelve months or so. It seems the best defence.

This registry hack is no longer needed (and indeed no longer works) if you update ATAPI.SYS http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013 note also, that there is a possibility of data corruption with suspend and hibernate modes and ATAPI.SYS versions prior to 1135, so you...

    Good warranty service

    NTFS v FAT32

FWIW, I only lost my entire Games folder and one of my code sub-folders (programmer). Installing a fresh/minimal copy of XP on a spare partition and running chkdsk recovered the partition with the abovementioned losses. The good news is I now have up to date backups on CDRW and on a network...

IS NTFS more robust than FAT32. Why I ask - last night I booted my PC and tried to burn some files to a CD. I got a lot of file read errors. I tried chkdsk the drive (only possible at boot time) and it kept saying that the FAT32 drive was a non-XP partition and would Skip checking. Booted...

    Replace Epox with MSI?

IIRC, this capacitor problem isn't EPoX specific. Apparently, there was some industrial espionage at the firm that used to have a monopoly on these caps. But the intrepid spy did not get all of the formula used for (I think) the insulation layer - capacitors made from the copy formula break...

A64 AMD's intention is to move to Socket 939 - consider it like Socket 754 except dual channel memory. Socket 939 will use unbuffered (normal) DIMM's (like Socket 754). Socket 754 will still be cheaper to implement so should be around for a while. Socket 940 (Opteron/FX) requires registered...

Socket 754 seems to have the most limited lifespan - but AMD will need a price leader for some time to come - so maybe not.
