    It's now official : I'm old.

Does a pot-belly make me half way old? What if I dye my hair? :) I've always used the 'net for news/research - old before my time, or just always old? Time for a nap.

    Old Celeron 300A/BH6

Heh Mubs, is there any 300A/BH6 combo that's not overclocked? :) When I started swapping things out, I thought the biggest oomph would come from the memory upgrade 128MB -> 384MB. I was wrong. The apparent hold up was getting stuff off of, and on to disk. I ripped out the 256MB stick and...

    Old Celeron 300A/BH6

A few of you know that I have one of these kicking around. It had a Quantum 4.3 ST, 128MB and ESS 1869 ISA sound card in it. I use it to play the occasional old DOS game (runs W98SE) such as Master of Magic or Panzer General, where the game needed direct access to the sound card (ie no sound...

    How to market SATA

Now isn't this something that we should benchmark - to find out the truth? Would make a great article - all we ned is for someone to fork out for 8 NG raptors + hi-end SATA controller as well as some USCSI luvin' :eekers:

And here's a smack down: http://www.aceshardware.com/forum?read=105052634 someone posted a link about a "review" of RAIDCore's RAID controller, and the above is a response - thought it funny enough to share. PS, anyone notice how quiet the forum has been without Tony :)

What a twist. http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5089168.html?tag=nefd_top SunnComm plans to sue the student who "discovered" the "hack" using the DMCA. How about he countersues SunnComm for fraud and incompetence.

Quick question: best Gforce FX5900 card

Howell, the problem isn't that NVIDIA is making optimisations - they are entitled to do that. The problem is that they are detecting when benchmarks are run in their driver and running the driver with lower image settings than were set in the benchmark/game/comtrol panel. This artificially...

Quick question: best Gforce FX5900 card

Tea, my opinion is that the NVIDIA cards are still reasonable, but the NVIDIA marketing is sleazy, underhanded and deceptive - and that makes me angry. My brief synopsis of the situation is this. NVIDIA worked closely with MS on DirectX 6, 7 & 8. The DirectX code very closely approximates...

Quick question: best Gforce FX5900 card

A brief snippet from JC. http://english.bonusweb.cz/interviews/carmackgfx.html NVIDIA's latest trick is to force Eidos to pull the Tomb Raider:AOD patch as it is not "representative of performance". What a crock! Every benchmark and every respected developer says the same thing - NV3x parts...

Advice for wife's new Christmas computer

Adcadet, are you sure it's just the machine slowing it down? My in-laws inherited my old Celeron 300A/BH6/G200/128MB SDRAM/Quantum Fireball ST (4.3GB) When I first built it with Win95C/Office95/IE4.0 it chugged along just nicely. It served them well for a couple of years. Office 95 gave way...

What to do with a G3 Mac, and old computers, like P3, 450mhz

Found a use for my Celeron 300A/BH6. Windows 98SE and Terror From The Deep. I have a bootable Win98SE partition on my nForce 2, but old DOS games do not recognise the sound hardware, as the IRQ's are all funny. So I have an old DOS game machine sitting in the corner for when I get all...

Quick question: best Gforce FX5900 card

Best NVIDIA card? Looks like none. I have been following the NVIDIA driver saga closely and I think NVIDIA have been cooking the books. I should point out that the since the TNT2 came out, all of my gaming cards have been NVIDIA (TNT2, GeForce 2 Pro, Ti 4200). Recently I found this...

What aspects ratios are true, w/o distortion?

1280 x 960 is the correct (4:3 or 12:9) aspect ratio - which is what I run. Divide the larger dimension by 4. Multiply result by 3. If the number is the same as your smaller dimension, then your sweet. 800/4 = 200 200 X 3 = 600 Widescreen DVD is 16:9.
