    How spammers *should* be handled

"Your dick is not only for pissing!" That's the title of one I received today. I didn't know spammers were into educating dumb fools like me. Reminds me of one of those "Height of" jokes that were popular eons ago when I was in high school. "What's the height of innocence?" "A pregnant girl...

    Compacting Mozilla/Thunderbird Folders

Folder compaction has been around since the Netscrape 4.x days, at least. If you just delete, the mail goes to trash and sits there (like Wreck Bin), and when you empty trash it compacts folders. Or, if you delete the message using Shift-Del (as I do), it disappears instantly, but the space the...

    Aggravation building new computer

The AGP slot shares the IRQ with one or more PCI slots; make sure the Promise isn't sitting in one of those. As I said, W2k & XP don't use the BIOS and will not have a problem with resources. No need to worry on that score. My Penium-3 BX motherboard has AGP + 5 PCI slots, and every one of...

    Aggravation building new computer

Actually, no. NT class operating systems (NT, 2000, XP) don't use the BIOS at all, but manage resources and hardware themselves. That's one reason many of the earlier posts urged you to use one of those. The best you can do with the BIOS for W98 is to clear CMOS and/or reset BIOS settings to...

Sheesh. My daughter had an old PC she uses for gaming (kiddie stuff). She recently got a Dell P4 hand me down which I set up for her, migrated W98 and installed Dell's OEM XP as a dual boot. XP works flawlessly on it, but a once stable W98 SE (on the old m/c) keeps crashing. I hadn't had the...
