    Help w/ high-end PSU

Thanks, Dave. 2 x SATA HDDs, 2 x Opticals, 1 x FDD, 4 x 92mm case fans, 1 x fan controller, 1 x USB/FW front panel bay. I thought the CPU ran off the 3.3v rail? I know the P4 requires a dedicated 12v rail, but didn't know A64's used 12v as well. Of the brands I've checked (Seasonic, Antec...

I forgot how to do dual boot!

I'm presuming XP's boot files will be on the 190GB partition. If so will XP boot? IIRC a bootable partition has to start before the 8GB boundary for Windows OSes.

    Help w/ high-end PSU

Thanks Dave. How does one size the +3.3v, +5v and +12v rails? The various online PSU calculators only spit out the aggregate power required. My concern is undersizing one of these crucial rails. Let's say the system would be: A64 X2 4800 Nforce4 Ultra (non-SLI) motherboard Radeon x1600 XT...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

It's impossible that's it's impossible - I see these on a daily basis! :D Perhaps the ones I see are not made by Lumileds. Just to clarify, the lights I see are a matrix of individual LEDs, whether for the red or the green signal. Individual green LEDs don't light up. Whether this is because...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

Thanks jtr. An odd thing I've noticed is with traffic lights that have been converted to LEDs. I see many greens with quite a few LEDs in the matrix that are dead -- 10% or less, but they are visibly dark when the green light comes on, but they don't affect the overall quality of the signal. I...

    Compacting Mozilla/Thunderbird Folders

Folder compaction has been around since the Netscrape 4.x days, at least. If you just delete, the mail goes to trash and sits there (like Wreck Bin), and when you empty trash it compacts folders. Or, if you delete the message using Shift-Del (as I do), it disappears instantly, but the space the...

    Aggravation building new computer

The AGP slot shares the IRQ with one or more PCI slots; make sure the Promise isn't sitting in one of those. As I said, W2k & XP don't use the BIOS and will not have a problem with resources. No need to worry on that score. My Penium-3 BX motherboard has AGP + 5 PCI slots, and every one of...

    Aggravation building new computer

Actually, no. NT class operating systems (NT, 2000, XP) don't use the BIOS at all, but manage resources and hardware themselves. That's one reason many of the earlier posts urged you to use one of those. The best you can do with the BIOS for W98 is to clear CMOS and/or reset BIOS settings to...
