Waterblocks? Please. That's so 2002. It's all about liquid nitrogen now.

Is this supposed to be serious press?

Yep. All in the name of overclocking and "more = better". After all, active cooling has to be better than passive, right? 8)

    Intereting read

Tony and free's aggressive vs conservative read/write strategies explain the physically slower write phenomenon, but we should remember that in practice, caching allows writes to be much faster than reads in most I/O situations (UPS suggested for critical data), mitigating the effect of slower...

    Suggestions for new power supply

Fortron and Sparkle are both made by FSP group. The brand name doesn't automatically determine the loudness of the PSU's (e.g., Sparkle = loud). They each have their silent models, value model, and high performance models. A FSP with an adjustable speed 120 mm fan is said to be one of the better...

    What did Santa bring you?

Santa went all out this year for me. I made off like a bandit: - parents bought me a very nice dining room set for my new condo - a friend of mine from uni moved back into town - a bunch of my other closest uni friends are back in town to visit... we had a great time last night - this was a NO...

    Something Random

You just found that every morning, you listen to the same four songs in order? It took you, what, twenty-two consecutive days with the same routine before you took a step back and said "hey, these are the same songs as yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that"? (j/k Dave)...

''State Of The Art'' CPU Cooling (Circa Dec 2003)

I have been using 2x Tt SilentBoost HSF's in my desktops for quite a while now (one of them combined with a Tt DuctingMod with the rear case fan blowing cold air straight into the intake side of the duct where the Panaflo LAC ring cage fan is mounted. Without the DuctingMod, it gives you about...

Papst fans - are they not supposed to be quiet?

Can you buy a Zalman Fanmate and try it out? I use 2-3 Fanmates in each desktop to adjust each case/CPU fan individually to my liking.

Merc, Yes, I know the type of CS grad to which you refer, although I am not a CS grad myself. (I re-read my previous post; it seems like I said I was a Windows-trained CS grad. What I meant was that I was never had any formal UNIX or CS training) A surprising amount of people I know went into...

    PrintMe

Acrobat 4 forever! I've been using Acrobat 4.05 since I installed W2k and will continue to do so as long as possible. It is annoying when some PDF files are not backwards compatible with 4.0, but those are mostly e-books and other crap that involves some form of DRM.

Please. Crippled? What hard drives can actually push > 33 MB/s sustained in daily (i.e., not just sequential I/O) usage. Interface bandwidth has a minimal impact on real world I/O performance when it is so much greater than actual real world disk-to-buffer throughput. And besides, W2k has always...

Fascinating this pattern of 3's... Apparently, NT 4 wasn't so hot until after several service packs came out. W2k IMO was usable right from the start. I started using NT 4 when SP3 or 4 was out and actually used NT 4 Workstation as my main OS for a year when 95B would crash incessantly on my...

Tony, the Craig which I am referring to is Craig Barrett, who took over for Andy Grove some time ago. Craig who? It's tough taking over for a legend when you're a nobody. Actually, to tell you the truth, i bet most women don't really engage in any fashion jargon. 6500K (Daylight) CFLs......

Yes, I will definitely consider T-8 ballasts when I move to a new house; the condo unit I just bought is devoid of any flourescent lighting fixtures. Mostly halogens and regular A-type incandescents (which I will replace with GE Reveal bulbs before I replace them entireley -- probably with...

It is interesting that we are all within a tight range... 130-140, mostly. Can we draw any conclusions from that? Perhaps people with lower IQ don't understand what the heck we're talking about, and people with higher IQ don't care about what we're talking about :)
