    Cheetah 9.1GB 10k x2

I have two Cheetah 9LP 9.1GB 10k drives, ST39102LW. They're 68-pin Ultra2 Wide. These were in a working RAID in an IBM workstation. I have tested them with Seatools and wiped them. http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/specs/scsi/st39102lw.html...

    Review of Hybrid Lexus RX400H

Actually, it makes a very big difference. 1. Power plants are point-sources that can be controlled far more easily than a thousand cars. 2. Power plants are far more efficient than the internal combustion engine. 3. Power plants have more than one fuel; they don't even have to use fossil...

    Is ECC mandatory?

One finds that the difference between a high-end desktop computer and low-end server is the case that you put it in. If you're looking at something that's non-critical and doesn't really need speed, then the expense isn't strictly necessary.

I should have mentioned that having a door to cover my highly colour-mismatched optical drives is an aesthetic must. This has to sit on my desk, and I don't want to look at beige-black-ivory everytime I glance to the right.... The Antec case is not described as being EATX-compatible. My...

Organizing MP3's (and any other music format)

Vorbis, FLAC, Theora, and Speex all use the ogg container (although you're far more likely to use raw FLACs than ogg FLACs). HydrogenAudio probably does a more pursuasive job of convincing use of superior codecs.

Organizing MP3's (and any other music format)

How about it's better? Higher compression and better sound. And so? Maybe they should. It's not as if it'll cost them money.... Ogg is a container; vorbis is the codec. If you don't want lossy compression, MP3 isn't for you either.... Why bother bother with the loss? Just use FLAC or...

    Dual Boot problem

This is because you installed the XP version of the NT OS loader into the boot sector! You should be able to use your Linux boot floppy to get into your installation. From there you should be able to reinstall GRUB and set it up correctly.

    Dual Boot problem

What you *should* have done was reinstall GRUB after installing Win2k. The problem here is the WinXP and Win2k only get along with one another when XP is installed last, and they don't get along with Linux at all.

    Backup solution -- dumb idea?

The problem with harddrives is that they contain both the mechanics and media; they are the disks and the drive. CDs and DVDs are just the disks; this makes them less susceptible to failure. What you're doing now (two online copies and an offline backup to DVD) is extremely reasonable.
