Because I'm on W2k. This was for a Dell I inherited with a failed hdd. I made it my daughter's game machine, transferring the W98 install from the older machine she had. Wanted to install the Dell Win-XP CD (pre-SP1) so she could dual boot (Enacrta etc. on XP). Wanted to make it current first...
They're talking about reconstruction & rebuilding. Why can't they just let go? Most everything there is ruined anyhow. If it's that vulnerable, with a massive lake on one side and the ocean on the other, rebuilding is a disaster waiting to happen.
That's awfully interesting. How do they do that? One would think that for earthquake safety, they'd use wood to build the houses. But for hurricanes, you need brick/cement/concrete. So as Handy says, are they hybrids, with the solid stuff only going up to about 8 feet, and the first ceiling...
Where on earth can you buy cables with ferrites on 'em? I've tried to buy such USB and Firewire cables, and could never find any. Is Granite Digital one source? Any others? Thanks, Splash.
L.A. Times: Strategizing a Christian Coup d'Etat: A group of believers wants to establish Scriptures-based government one city and county at a time.
It's interesting that the country is coming full circle. The founders left England to have religious freedom, now religion is being shoved down...
Nasty. There was a report a few months ago that hurricanes are increasing in strength over the last few years, and will continue to do so. The blame being laid on - what else - GW. (that's global warming, not Dubya).
Sorry to hear of your problems, i. Sometimes with all the research and care you put in, things still end up being a mess. What else can you do but move on? Since the overall product quality and experience is so bad, can you not ask SpeakEasy to terminate the contract without penalty to you and...
AFAIK, Via had always been trouble for these kinds of things; connection issues, throughput issues, whatever. NEC & TI have always been considered the gold standard for USB & Firewire. Maybe things have changed now with VIA; I don't know. Given Sanitlli's luck, I thought he'd want a...
Sechs: you forgot to clarify. IIRC, this comment was made at Clinton during the Bosnia/Serbia et al timeframe.
Several other Repubs and Repub leaders made similar comments then. Now nobody, including the testicle-less Dems, is saying anything.
If you're not in a hurry, keep an eye on Bens Bargains. An NEC-chipset 5-port card pops up there from time to time. If you're in a hurry, buy an Adaptec, Belkin or Orange Micro; you can't go wrong. Buying a Syba / Sheba whatever is going to cause more grief than it's worth it.
Interesting that the SAS versions gulp more power, operating and idle. Wonder if it is because the parallel SCSI versions have been honed over the years (I didn't think they cared a whole lot about heat/power issues till now, notwithstanding their use in blade servers).
Max 73GB capacity, 10k...
That's good work you're doing there, Tony (I don't mean only the websites). Less wise folks like me better get involved and help the planet before it's too late.
"You can fool some of the people some of the time," etc.
What's surprising is that he's getting away with it. LBJ didn't. Nixon didn't. Reagan didn't. Clinon didn't. Maybe we've just become too cynical and uncaring as a people and a nation.
Intersting read here.
And something about the great leader: Selfless and Unrelenting...
These days it seems like I'm living in the twilight zone. I still can't believe how far this country has fallen in so short a time. Makes me sick to the stomach.
Try forcing your new computer's NIC to 100 mbit instead of leaving it at autonegotiate.
Data Execution sounds like bad memory to me. Have you run memtest at its most exhaustive level? It might have to run overnight.
One other word of warning: the RAM may be ok in and of itself, but may not be...
I am sorry for bringing up the (presumed) dead. Did the "XP SCSI bug" ever get resolved? The no cached writes thing? I remember Pradeep and others saying Win2003 has an option to force write caching in Device Mangler by saying that the system was on an UPS. What about XP SP2? I guess SATA is...
Don't know, Buck, sorry :(. I understand Costco is the cheapest place to get it, at ~$170 a bottle (unless you buy it at a duty free airport store abroad, like Taipei). When I find out for sure, I'll post back here (will be a while, though).
That post from rec.humor.funny was hilarious, thanks for sharing it, Merc. I vaguely remember that Jerry's columns were indeed like that (only read a few, was never a big fan of the guy).
It's interesting how multiple conversations happen simultaneously in a single thread.
Reminds me of a joke my Irish friend told me years ago. This Irish farmer walks over to his neighbor's and finds him working underneath his vehicle. "I'm going into town, need anything?", he asks. After a moment comes the reply, "Yeah, get me a fan belt. For a blue van".
I'm not much of a drinker. But a couple of times recently I was offered "Blue Label" whisky, and accepted. Very smooth. I understand it's quite expensive.
I guess what I meant to say was this: If I need to relieve myself, and decide to do it on the compound wall of Disneyland in broad daylight on Harbor Blvd., would that be acceptable? We have certain written and unwritten rules of conduct and behaviour. Obviously we make allowances for the...
Lost6200, Fushigi, you've misunderstood me. Older folk mostly wear pads for incontinence; if they still leak, I wouldn't blame them. Likewise for infants/children. This woman made a choice not to go to the restroom because she'd lose her place in line, preferring to wet herself instead. That's...
The simple answer is this. The temp agency / headhunter / recruiter obliterates your contact info and puts in theirs. How do I know? I've seen my resume in the hands of interviewers. When I've hired, I've seen what these intermediaries provide. They don't want the employer to contact you...
Grrrr. That's why I'm still using it, Tony (clenches teeth). Why oh why can't somebody build a decent modern email client??? I've tried several for-pay proggies and never liked any one of them, returning to Netscrape time and time again. Grrrrrrr.
The whole thing seems incredible to me. Especially the part about the woman who made a really bizarre choice. There were no arrests, so she got away with wetting herself in public. Yuk.
