    More Vista nonsense

The other people in my office - MOS Master certified instructors - make gagging noises and stare longingly at the veins in their wrists as they are working on Office 2007. Shockingly, I already know of two largish (100+ employee) companies which have deployed it. I don't know what the big deal...

    Well that didn't take long

No, I've done a little research. It's just that only certain audio chipsets properly support digital I/O under Vista. Nothing that uses the generic AC97 audio driver in Vista supports digital I/O. Nor any Audigy product. SB Live! does. C-Media codecs don't, apparently. So it's just spotty...

    Well that didn't take long

A clean, new install on a C2D is pretty reasonable. Less time than XP takes, I think. Sadly, that's probably the last time Vista is faster than XP at anything. Anyway, the guy who called me this morning has hardware that isn't fully supported with Vista; he's using fancy speakers with digital...

    More Vista nonsense

Some Vista versions are not licensed for use on a Virtual Machine at all. I don't know how the OS could tell, but I don't think any Home Version or Business basic are allowed as guests in VMware or Parallels or MSVPC. When I look at my MSDN key list, I have listings for Home edition and...

I can't ever recall an Inwin case that I would call quiet. The good news is, it'll be sturdy. Maybe Coug will need a hammer to properly express himself when a steel-toe boot doesn't cut it. ;)

    Network trouble

In my experience ICS usually works well enough for what it's for; the biggest problem I've had with it is a small ICS network where someone mistakenly adds a wireless router which they just want to use as an AP (easily solved by making the router the primary gateway but a source of trouble...

Probably because the smaller guys are commodity items while the bigger PC displays still have the cachet - and profit margin - of "high end" items. The connection in general or connection to shared drives? I've found on VERY fast PCs that connections to shared drives (Windows Networking) can take 30 - 45 seconds to start after the PC is at a clean desktop, which I guess is the result of some optimization of the Windows XP boot process.
