NEWZ: Seagate Releases 120GB & 100GB 2½ Inch Notebook Dr

I'm comparing mine to WD2500JBs, Maxline 300s and Samsung 200GB units. I don't see Seagate drives very often.

No. I just want to see what I can get off these drives. For the record, Easy Recovery Pro got nothing. Nada. Active Partition Undelete didn't see anything, either. Get Data Back for NTFS did something interesting: It managed to recover some data - about 20% of the array, actually - well enough...

    My fun project

Odd that Pradeep mentioned how hot Hitachi drives get in his other post... Over the weekend I got my replacement batch of 20 7k400 SATA drives, and I decided to use some of them to move around some existing data. So Saturday I installed four of them on a cheap 4-port controller controller, a...

    City of Heroes Free Trial

Well, I'm looking at the patch notes for the next update to the game, and I'm not happy about them. I'm almost to the point that I think the only good game is Master of Magic. Or maybe the non-sucky original Half-Life. It's not like there's tons of new PC games any more. Once you discount...

    First and last ASUS MB

I just noticed that, while Gigabyte has BIOS flashes to make top-end Semprons work with three year old motherboards, Asus is restricting support only to certain PCB revs, and apparently only to newer Socket A boards. ... and the CPU support web page for Asus motherboards has been offline for a...

    Stupid case innovation

OK, it's not stupid. But I found the neatest thing on a cheap, $18 case (thankfully, it wasn't $18 with a power supply). What is it? It's a 1" thick, 2" long piece of fairly bendy metal that hooks upwards, off the motherboard tray, parallel to the bottom edge of the power supply. It holds all...

jtr, as I recall the basis of the suit wasn't just that the kid stored the songs, but that he'd functioned as a Napster supernode for x number of months, during which time some large number of people downloaded music from him. Still, $90 billion is such a fantastically enormous sum of money that...

If you'd bought an X-Mystique, you could've had better sound and better drivers. Hell, if you bought something with a Via Envy, you would've gotten better sound for 20% of what the Audigy cost, and better drivers than Creative OR the X-Mystique. But hey, people who buy Creative hardware deserve it.

NEWZ: Seagate Releases 120GB & 100GB 2½ Inch Notebook Dr

Newegg's drive packaging tends to be lousy. I've gotten four or five DOAs from them. Samsung drives at least come in their plastic shells, but I won't buy a 3.5" Hitachi drive from them, 'cause they just bubble wrap the static bag. I can break Hitachi drives on my own, thank you. Anyway...

    Mini-Rant: Label Ergonomics

What I mean is, the oldest and crappiest technology just refuses to die. In two years, I'll bet we're still installing IDE optical drives, just because the SATA ones will cost more, and we'll still have PATA ports on our boards that aren't doing anything else.

Video editing solution? Burning to DVD?

You pretty much want to dedicate a PC to vidcap no matter what hardware you have. It really sucks when your dedicated MPEG capture device can't write to the hard drive because you browsed to a web site with an extra-obnoxious Java app.
