    Newegg down???

This. I've told customers to hold off on updating Windows and Office so there's been less interest in IT spending overall.

    WD greenpower 1TB drive

I give a crap about them being 5400rpm drives. I have no problem with that at all. No one is buying 1TB drives to be super-fast. Objectively, though, if they're going to be slower, there needs to be more of a price differential than is currently available since there's no normal pricing penalty...

    Newegg down???

Works here too. Actually I just got a call a few minutes ago telling me that my various Newegg accounts qualify for even more discounts and special crap. Oddly, this year I've spent way less at Newegg than I usually do.

    Music

I just got my copy of the Return of the King complete score. Three hours, thirty three minutes and forty two seconds of music. I've listened to the whole thing twice, and tomorrow it is my goal to make an uninterrupted listen of the whole set (Fellowship, Towers, King). The whole thing is truly...

Local storage in a VM outside it's disk image?

I've tried playing with what you're suggesting and I'm stuck too. And yes, you can run run a VM from a partition or an entire physical disk. I don't have any images set up that way, but with a whole physical disk you might actually be able to mount additional file systems on that disk...

NDS from 1994 makes AD from 2007 look like a toy. It replicated better, it was easier to understand and easier to administer. 20 250GB disk shootout

250GB units are presently the mainstream desktop drive of choice. Sure, we were tired of them in 2003, but they're only just replacing the 160GB models we were tired of in 2001. ;)

Home = 5 connection, Business versions = 10 connections and yes, it is enforced by the OS. I see a lot of small businesses where a computer in a full tower case with XP Pro is a "server."

Apparently money isn't much of an issue for her so much as principle. I suggested a $900 Dell Latitude and a $1500 Thinkpad T61 and she went with the Thinkpad. Maybe 'cause it's what I was showing her. She liked that things were "bigger" (1024x768) on my screen.

I worked in plant offices, but I had to walk past the turbines on the plant floor all the time to get anyplace. The nuke plants were a lot more secure than coal, but at the same time, I think plant security at the steel mills I've been to was considerably tighter than those nuke plants were.

    ATi HD 3870 and 3850

I don't think either ATI or nVidia has a very good handle on how to keep their hardware properly cool. I might be willing to go along with that if the new GPU sat under the very nice but still vastly inadequate cooler used for the GTX/GTS. It doesn't. It's on a small cooler and I have little doubt that many people will lose their expensive cards because they continue to get too goddamned hot.
