    Where's 2003 server?

An action pack subscription is ~ $300. Considering that you get a full, legal copy of everything Microsoft makes (er, except games and the odd consumer package like Plus!), I'd call that a frickin' bargain. ... or there are the 120 day trial versions of more-or-less everything that you can get...

Hm. I've not been able to get the ISO from MSDN, either. Been trying for about two weeks. This is bloody annoying.

    Where's 2003 server?

I got my happy-pack from MSDN this morning. Office 2003 beta 2, Exchange 2003 and... 2003 Server RC2 (only this time a "360 day trial version")? WTF? Didn't 2003 server go gold like a month ago? Anyone else have an action pack sub or MSDN? Didja get 2003 server yet?

Update to 1.4. Yes, it's still beta. Too bad. It works beautifully and it didn't do that on my linux box this morning when I first saw Pradeep's location.

    network connection question

I've got a few spare 8 and 16 port port switches. Linksys and Dlink. The linkys I still have are the old ones with the steel cases and... they really don't get hot. Are we talking about the old metal ones or the only sorta old plastic ones? SMC's low-end managed switches get pretty warm.

    network connection question

My router has two high rpm fans in it. One for each power supply. ;) A bog-standard linksys switch should be no warmer than room temp, and my wireless AP isn't particularly hot either.

    network connection question

Why should it? Given linksys's market, there really isn't much need to daisy chain equipment. When I do home network installations I typically wire 8 ports, usually four rooms with two ports each. Very few people need more connectivity than that in home/SOHO settings.

[NEWS] - Beware of GeFarce FX 5200 64MB

"Butt kicking" depends largely on point of view, blake. Radeon 9000s are in the low $60 range and seem plenty fast to me. If all you're looking at is 3D fill rates, the fact that you can get a GF4MX (approximately the same power as an Xbox, right?) for $45 or so has got to be pretty impressive.

    Bon Voyage Concorde

I have customer who INSISTS on having meetings at hooters. Frankly, their food isn't that impressive and I don't think I'd choose to go there on my own, but the local establishment is a series of decks and recessed areas, such that there are short flights of stairs EVERYWHERE. The g-forces...

    Grado SR60 - Excellent headphones

I can't stand wearing headphones, myself. My glasses are extraordinarily heavy, and anything that presses against my ears makes that worse. My one concession to my neighbors' enjoyment of my music was to put a much smaller/lower powered set of speakers in my living room. I use an Acoustic...

Or weirdness from Opera. Whichever. Since I'm presently in a mood to tolerate software I don't like very well (eg, booting XP on a couple of machines), I'll give this latest version a go. Maybe it'll be less crashy than the last four times I tried it (last attempt was, I think, v5.5)

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

One of my cousins has a ~1978 Volvo 240 with 580,000 miles on it. He commutes from Fithian, Illinois (the small town where I grew up) to Decatur, Illinois. I don't know exactly how far that is. Far enough. The thing is, that car is in perfect mechanical condition. I think the most work he had...

    network connection question

If you have both DHCP and a static address on the same interface, there's a very good chance for the sort of settings conflict that would make one or the other unworkable eg - You have an assigned DNS address from DHCP and a static one you've configured. Which one gets precedence? Does one...

    network connection question

Stupid Windows XP trick: If you've got ieee1394 on both machines, you can use that as your local network. Works very well. If you can find the right %$$ing cable. Otherwise, yeah, you should probably do the 2 NICs + ICS thing. It'd work better for your setup.
