[NEWS] - VIA and Intel settle lawsuits

Alpha went to EV7 for 533MHz, IIRC Were I in the position of licensing the technology for the processor technology I was betting billions of dollars of engineering and fab work on, I'd at least license that technology for as long as practical. 8 years? 10 years? A long time. Were I a...

[NEWS] - VIA and Intel settle lawsuits

The EV6 bus used by AMD chips is Intel intellectual property by way of HP by way of Compaq by way of DEC. In short, that ain't gonna hold either.

    Budget upgrade challenge

I've bought low-end motherboards from econopc a time or two. Get their best pricing through pricewatch. It's usually substantially cheap. The hairy one is right that Gigabyte's AMD760 boards are good quality as well, but I know the biostar to be a solid if unremarkable choice. Shuttle's AK32L...

That Asus thing people seem to like: $75 or so Athlon 1700 - $50 or so. Duron 1.3 for $36. Decent fan - call it $10 (or $14 for a microflow from another place that's right up the road). As an alternative, EconoPC - just up the road from y'all - has a Biostar M7VKQ with the 1700 (onboard...

    WTB: 4GB-ish IDE driveS

The project is that I need a bunch of drives that work when I want to use them for my "classroom stuff". That means installing OSes, teaching people fdisk, using them as "hot spares" in case a classroom drive dies. So yes, having drives that work perfectly is a good thing. ;) I've got a small...

I don't have an XBox so I can't test that, but the copies of "Lilo & Stitch" and, um, a movie that's less wholesome than that, both work fine for playback in nero and my JVC changer. Nero is fine for DVDs. It checks that you're burning Video DVDs with a Video_TS.IFO and checks that IFO for syntax errors. That's not a bad thing. It keeps you from making DVDs that won't play. Do you know anything about networking, charmedcat? A SAN can be conceptualized a lot like an ethernet network. Running one or two drives in a daisy-chain fashion (HBA to drive to drive to HBA) is pretty close to your old-fashioned 10base2 LAN (or xbaseT on a hub). Shared media, only one node...

    Hard drive predictions for 2003
