Question about VPN & Dual Network Connections

ihsan, I suspect you'll see some serious performance loss in any case. Will the processor handling IPSec on, say, a 3Com NIC really do better than the processor handling parity calculations on a mid-range RAID controller? VPN = a lot of overhead. That's kind of a cool experiment to do in any case.

W2K Assigning a task to 1 CPU on a dual machine

If you right click on your running process in the "processes" view in task manager, you can choose to "set affinity", which will let you permanently assign which CPU(s) handles a particular program. 2000 will also let you distribute interrupts to multiple CPUs, which can also help or hinder...

Prof, in the olden days, most sites on the internet consisted of more than one computer, each with a unique name. I disagree strongly about using Microsoft's C. Basically, you start out writing standard code and end up in "funny Microsoft land" playing with their weirdo libraries and not writing any normal code. At least, that's what I've heard from the Windows developers I know.

Bluetooth is nowhere to be seen here in the states. Not surprising given microsoft's stance for support (XP doesn't even support it, officially). It's a low-bandwidth technology, anyway, and with the ranges and levels of interference i will be dealing with, not a solution in this instance.

I can tell you from experience that Wireless doesn't do well where there are lots of fluorescent lights, either. Maybe the 5GHz 802.11a is better. And honestly, the best possible answer is fiber. If nothing else, you're looking at a substantial performance degradation from interference. Your network will probably work, sort of, but in my experience, you're better off looking for another plan of action. I've never tried steel pipe myself, but even STP doesn't do well in those...

Optionally, yes. A receiver with Dolby Pro Logic II will try really hard to turn any input it gets into 5.1, even if it's a plain old stereo input. If you choose to hook up your PC through analog 5.1 inputs on a receiver, you'll get 6 channels any time there's six channels to be had, which is...
