    $800 used to be enough?

A friend has asked me to help them with a PC. No games, light DAW use, light office use, 3 monitors. My first instinct was the cheapest current-generation AMD CPU, basic motherboard from a known brand, 32GB of RAM, 2TB M.2, efficient power supply of a known brand, and any AMD/nVidia GPU...

    Securing your phone against hacking?

The number 1 "back in my day" story I tell as part of tech support is to reboot your devices. Everyone here can remember when restarting at least once a day was critical to the function of a PC (and it took 20 minutes). Now when I tell people to spend 30 seconds and reboot their phone they treat...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

When my S22 Ultra died a few months ago (saltwater does bad things) I replaced it with.....an S22+ Yes, an inferior phone. But the performance is super good enough, the screen doesn't have the absurd curved edges, and I got a refurbed one for $175. That is 20% of what I paid for the Ultra.

Modern printers won't print even just black if any of the cartridges are empty. It is also possible that it hasn't been used in long enough that ink has dried on the end of the printhead and needs to be cleaned. At the moment it is doing literally nothing, other than physically holding up my new desktop. The plan is that when winter sets in here and my work slows down I'll finally get the house off the Alexa system by combining home assistant, voice recognition, a basic LLM, and text to speech. For...
