I've never even heard of one for PCI. Considering practically every PCIe-capable motherboard on the planet has at least one Ethernet port and a ton of USB2 on it already, I'd find it unlikely.

IIRC, BIOSes have supported a "Virus MBR Lock" for some time, where it will interrupt any changes to the MBR when enabled. Of course, you have to turn it off to install the OS then remember to turn it back on.

Are you planning a complete replacement? If not, can you give the specs of the build and what you would like to try and keep? Is the small size still important to you?

Are you sharing with "everyone"? IIRC, this means you also need to enable the guest account. Not the most secure thing to do.

There are a bunch of things that I do to make this work. The easiest is to turn off password protected sharing on the Windows 7 box by pressing the start button and typing "sharing". Choose "Advanced Sharing Settings" from the list, scroll down, and turn it off. If that doesn't work, let me know.

If you are running F@H, or some other app that will max your CPU constantly, variable speed fans are not significant. You've basically converted your machine into a steady-state heat source.

I have quite a few of the 120mm and 80mm Noctua fans, and am quite happy with them. I didn't get their 140mm fans because I couldn't set them on edge and have them stay up.

My new coffin can utilize 140mm or slightly larger fans. Haven't found any that I really like yet, but I'm running with 4 of these at the moment.

You could make the USB drives Dynamic Disks and then make them a RAID-5 array, but Lunar is right, that is a sub-optimal solution.
