Sen. Ted Stevens on Net Neutrality

Listening to this guy talk about how the Internet works is like asking a four-year-old to explain thunderstorms. Really, the two things are almost identical. This worthless piece of crap is one of the most powerful men in the US Senate, which basically makes him one of the most powerful people...

And while I'm venting... I either have to hit "Post Reply" at the tippy-top of the thread to make a new post, or hit "Quick Reply" and then "Advanced View" to type my reply; the Quick Reply Window, being the size of a postage stamp, is good for exactly naught.

    Laptop 7200 price drop:? Why?

I don't think so. I think Seagate is just trying to find buyers for high-margin products which don't have a tremendous demand in the marketplace yet. At the same time, Seagate is also pushing ahead with improvements to their disk products; they announced a patent for nanotube-lubricant based...

Has anyone tried to use the new SF on an 800x600 screen? I know exactly what Will is talking about. There's all kinds of extra weird buttons and wasted space. The default theme seems to use a much bigger font, which makes for lots of scrolling even on a high-res screen. I'm at 1280x1024 right...

    Notebook processor choice

The Core Solo and Core Duo are both clock-for-clock faster than the other choices, and better for battery life as well. The Duo is the most expensive choice and, being dual core, might be a little bit exotic for an "average" user. There's not much practical difference between a Turion and a...

All in ones, for a very small business...

Let me take a moment to echo other sentiments: All in Ones end up being either very expensive printers, or very expensive fax machines. You need to have a passwords assigned to the user account that you're using to connect to the share (on the windows side). You may want to add entries in your hosts file to make the connections happen faster. You need to disable the Firewall on the Linux side, or make holes for the relevant...

Is it possible to buy MS Powerpoint separately?

I can buy Powerpoint separately. I've never done so but I have had to buy Outlook and Access that way. Individual MS Office components are usually around $200. I haven't noticed any particular problem with bigger Samsung drives. I have lots of 250GB units. Generally the "least reliable" Samsung units I'm aware of have been 80GB 2MB cache models, but even those I think I've RMA'd four out of about 350 over a three year period. The Hitachi 7k250 and...

I probably would've jumped if the drives had been Hitachi or Samsung. As it stands, the 400GB Samsung drive is a very reasonable $145 or so. That's still a lot of money when you want to replace 24 drives. Personally I don't see a problem with PATA. I just want capacity.

Runtime Software's Get Data Back has a 30 day trial. It's by far the best recovery software I've found. "Free" programs for Windows tend to either not be worth the bits they're written with or else only show you want you could recover if only you gave the developer $99.95.
