    Goodbye (for now)

Since Pradeep's in the USA now, I think the Aussie constitutional requirement that he work "Bruce" into his son's name is lifted. Human gestational times are quite a bit longer than five weeks though, and it didn't LOOK like Pradeep had a shotgun wedding. Just the same, if Pradeep DID have a...

It means the drivers aren't provided in a format that would allow them to be accessed during the "Press F6 to Add Drivers" portion of the Windows installation. How that can be, I have no idea.

[NEWS] - ATM to use Windows in 3 years

IIRC, you can set the shell for 2000 in HKLM> Software> MS> Windows> Currentversion> WinLogon Change it to cmd.exe and you should be dropped to a shell post-logon. No explorer bar or anything (unless you started explorer after the fact). The Office Toolbar also makes a nice, lightweight shell.

Wanted: ATi card with VIVO or AIW

I have an 8500DV that I really hate. The proprietary back connector thing falls off from time to time and then I have to spend 20 minutes cursing ATI while I move my AV rack around so I can put it back on. I'll sell it to you for $60.

    How do people meet people?

I seem to be at the point where it's just easier to give up. I've tried to write replies to the above that would be brief and would still adequately contain my thoughts. I can't seem to find that particular set of words.

    HTML Email Sucks!

You're only now noticing this? elm, my text based email client, gives a count of line numbers in a mail message. For a simple email, it's usually 8 lines or so. For HTML mail it's usually 50 or so. The worst offender is Outlook Express, because it includes both plaintext AND HTML in the same...

    How do people meet people?

To respond to Jake's accusation that I wouldn't attend a perfect function for me to meet people: Philosophically, I really would like to spend my whole life on an island someplace, away from everyone except maybe the one person whom I really do enjoy being with. There's an issue of identity...

    How do people meet people?

Tough to say. I was much more uncomfortable when the camera batteries died. I don't know if I could go out, even if I knew where to go. I don't know where to go, though, so it's a moot point.

Huh? I thought Windows 2000 was designed for networking

Roaming profiles are generally not a good idea anyway. They create obnoxious amounts of network traffic and seem to add an exciting extra chance of causing profile corruption.

Not a lot of people using BitTorrent

If you find a tracker for a popular movie, you'd be surprised how fast bittorrent works. I downloaded a 3GB screener of Terminator 3 in 20 minutes earlier this summer. The problem is finding decent trackers. Slackware would probably be faster to grab off an FTP site. It's not THAT popular...

When I was with Amy, I had the power to make her friends jealous and to make her melt. Regularly. How? I am a romantic person. People get married and forget all about romance. I never forgot important dates. What's an important date? Birthdays, anniversaries, first day of "that time of the...

    1. A civilized man judges not the shape of the bosums, only appreciates that they are there and available for all to admire. It's possible to be a lecher and also a gentleman (or a gentlelady, even). 2. This thread has more value than a couple of jokes.

Huh? I thought Windows 2000 was designed for networking

Simple file sharing simply disgusts me. I don't know why it's hidden with the Explorer options like that, either. Mainly, it's insulting to me that XP "just does things" that seem, to me, to break rules I thought were well-established and clear... like what ends up in Network Places, and yes...

    Bug in MS Paint

Tried it. Didn't help. Of course, with Symantec Products, the uninstall features are usually so god-awful that they don't work anyway. But I wasn't in the mood to dig through the registry at that point looking for the leftovers, either.

I can't reproduce the problem anywhere but there. I tried on my one XP machine and my one 2003 Server and on several 2000 machines. These machines have Symantec AV 8.1. If someone had told me that functionality THAT basic wasn't working right in Windows XP, I'd probably break out laughing...

Kazaa Lite is kind of spiffy. FastTrack has a rep for attracting noobs though, and RIAA shares a LOT of crap files on them - enough that I've found, say, bogus Diana Krall (jazz hottie and probably obscure to most people) tracks on them. The rep for no selection is also apt. Even with K++'s...
