I have an APC sealed rack with its own cooling. It lives in my laundry room now. They come apart you know. If you want cheap, musicians are usually selling them. :) I'd really like to get a better rack for audio. Something oak that matches my furniture.

That IS what I'm thinking of. The only other interesting aspect would be finding a nicer carrier for video than a big, thick VGA cable. I'm working on wiring my house now. Cat6 for ethernet. Cat6 for svideo. Cat6 for stereo.

I am not smart enough to call Australia

Dammit Tea! I was just cooking dinner. You probably called while I was out messing around with my grill. My cell phone number, for anyone who might actually care, is 219-PH1-UKSC. Sometimes I even answer it.

Nope. That's just a big antenna. I'm good for that. What I'd love to see is a consumer devices with some RCA or maybe SPDIF connections for audio, and svideo connections for video, a Tivo-like MPEG encoder chip, shoutcast-like server support and 802.11A/G awareness. On the client end, a...

[NEWS] - ATM to use Windows in 3 years

I work with NT and Embedded 2000-based POS (not vomit boxes) systems from time to time. ATMs aren't that different from those. Some of my Bank's ATMs (BankOne) in Northwest Indiana are Windows based, too, albeit different-looking from the one in the picture above.

Plus Redhill is only open to customers for 5 hours a day. I guess the rest of the day is service time? I have Tannin's home number too. Except I'll bet he's still asleep. Lazy so-and-so. Sleeping in the middle of the night like that. It's downright inconsiderate.

Why doesn't anyone make a keyboard with a smallish LCD (12 or 14 inch) attached? I can think of at least five or six applications for that in as many seconds, even more if someone can make the video signal run over CAT5. Why doesn't anyone make a remote control that can be programmed or...

Tannin says it does. Howell said couldn't get it to work either. BTW, if someone wants to test this theory and bother Tannin by phone, I know that the flat rate for calls to Oz by 10-10-629 is $.09 a minute (no fee or subscription charge), which is EXTREMELY cheap.

I'm not a goth. I wear khaki trousers, black sneakers and solid-color tshirts (yes, one of them is pink) every day of my life. Sometimes I wear a sport coat, when I have to look dressed up. The machine in question is an XP2500 with 512MB RAM running 2000 Server. Perhaps because I'm not a regular IE user, it takes longer to start up the first time. Firebird loads more or less instantly (maybe 1 second delay). IE definitely does not, requiring about 8 seconds before the window is...

    How do people meet people?

Doubtful. What I've been told is that you're kept in a ward with security that prevents you from leaving. Not a cell or anything, just a combination of alarms and burly guys who really don't want you to go anywhere until someone says it's OK. You're held in "observation", probably medicated...

Advice for wife's new Christmas computer

IMO the only advantage nForce2 has is the Soundstorm encoder. If you aren't interested, I think the Via chipsets are a better choice. The Via KT600 is a little slower, yes, but this is a difference expressed in tenths of a percentage point. The KTxxx chipset has been around forever and IMO...
