As Coug mentioned...I think it depends upon the implementation. My nForce2 system uses AC97 for the interface but I believe the signal processing is handled by the nForce2 chipset without loading down the system CPU.... I using AC97 on my dad's Athlon 700 (Epox 7KXA+) and it seems to work...

Sorry to hear about your trouble's Merc. Are you using Firedaemon to create the service? It has always 'just worked' for me. I administer my basement machines via Remote Desktop. If you aren't doing that, maybe you could give it a try to make your administration easier. C

I haven't checked temps yet but it is running at stock speed (~2Ghz) so I would not expect temps to be a problem. I'm going to try the MB Probe software you mentioned tonight. The cooler I'm using is VERY quiet and does a nice job. I was using two of them on my TigerMPX before. It is the OCZ...
