What do we all look like

My vote is for the javascript. My 1800+ bogs down for 5-10 seconds depending on how many windows are opening. This from a machine with 256 MB and only a mail client and one IE window open. Let me take that back. W2k is not slow: I can browse the start menu and windows explorer windows but IE is...

    Email and networking issues

I found it easiest to start the installation with only one NIC in place. The last time I installed, The NIC auto detect would try to use the wrong NIC for GREEN. Just choose GREEN + Modem or ISDN. Then go back after everything is finished and change it.

Leave it to The Grammer Police to be grammaticly inconsistent. OTOH, If The Giver can consistently speak in the third person I see no reason why The Grammer Police can't consistently speak in plural.

There is a technical name for it but it slips the mind right now. I doubt your new client would like the search time. That device might stream 32 but I wonder how long it would take to find a single project. You were talking about working from the tape, right?

It would be just as good not to meantion cheaper to have the development machine not attached to the internet. Nightly file comparisons could be run against the internet available machine and restore modified files as necessary.

    Sold on Dual CPUs?

James, I'm glad you brought the topic back up. How do you stream DVDs around the house? When you ripped your DVDs did they maintain their multichannel audio? I've heard that can be a problem.

Nope, not yet! :o I read on in their forums about FAH not working properly with squid web caching. Apparently squid will cache the proteins and you won't get new ones. I turned it off and got an immediate bump. I will lose a PIII 1000 at the same time I add the dually so the increase won't be...

    Quiet PCL laser printer recommendations

How cheap would an old HP laserjet need to be to be worth purchasing? I have experience with the III, 4, 5 ,8000 ,8050 ,... but nothing older or less than workgroup size. The under $200US price for a personal laser looks appealing but I'm not sure it would be worth buying an old printer for that.

On a couple of computers, I ran 3.1 mid-protein which converted to data and then I went back to 2.19 for a while and then returned to 3.1. When the protein was finished, 3.1 had trouble turning it in but I just fired up 2.19 and I turned it in and then got a new one. Thereafter, I ran 3.1 with...

I have heard that low frequencies that can not be heard can be directed at someone and make them feel queasy. Some non-lethal weapons research. As for what I think you are asking Bartender, at that point you are not listening to the music but to the acoustics of the room, table, nicknacks...

How much better is Athlon that Duron for Folding

If I did my calculations* right and who know 'cause I was basicly guessing: The XP is better by a factor of .6. * 1231Mhz 1018Mhz ---------- = ---------- X 91s 124s X works out to be 1.6

It makes sense to me that something this CPU intensive is dependent on cache for for the final analysis I will defer. I will do some examination later on my machines to see if I can come up with something approximate.
