The issue is the specs listed on the box, which say that the Audigy does playback of 24-bit/96kHz audio... without mentioning that the over whelming majority of playback will be 16-bit, 44kHz-upsampled-to-48kHz audio. The only way to get 24/96 audio out of an audigy is by playing an Audio DVD.

Considering that there is zero additional cost for this, beyond the money I already spent on an audigy, I may well be OK with that. Especially if Creative actually makes a compelling next-generation product.

And if you bought an Audigy or an Extigy, They owe you $60, too. OK, it's a credit on a future Creative Labs purchase, not actual money, but I'm sure Creative will trick me into buying a sound card again someday. Especially when it's a dolby-digital encoding something-or-other.
