Damn! Damn! Damn! It appears Samsung India altered their website a few weeks backs to not show internal HDDs. Searching finds a link titled "oldies but goodies", clicking which results in a "sorry we can't find that page". Online, I am unable to find anybody carrying Sammys, save one dealer...

Move Windows 7 partitions to new drive

I remember reading somewhere that when you install Win-7, if other partitions / drives are present, it writes small files on them and causes this kind of problem when the Win-7 partition is moved later. Bit fuzzy on the issues, but this may be what you experienced.

You make me nervous! I have a Hibachi 1TB drive as my boot drive; can't recollect the model # (at work now). I'll try to rustle up some Sammys for the new PC I'm planning to build in the fall. My current one is 5 years old now.

Since the higher capacities are less reliable and Samsung and Hibachi are going bye, maybe it's a good idea to stock up on some Sammy or Hibachi 1TB drives?

Sheesh, I must not have realized there was a whole page of posts after Liam's Glenlivet 12yo. Time, my favorite smoky flavor is Macallan. Regarding ice, I've read and experienced the opposite of what you claim; chilled whisky releases the fragrances and subtle flavors better. I started off...

    Ergonomic mice

Not counting the OT posts, all good suggestions. I find I seldom have problems with mousing in and of itself. In my experience, what is critical is the positioning: a) Height of the mouse work surface with respect to the seating height; does the arm / hand have to drop down, or is the shoulder...

SSDs - State of the Product?

There was an article I read a few weeks ago; boffins at some univ proclaimed that SSDs cannot really be wiped. There are also persistent rumors that cell phones cannot be wiped fully by the user using the factory reset code, and that a shop with the right cable & sw can retrieve all your...

    Cable Management

DD, yeah, they are expensive, but at least they look good. LM, aren't most cables unsheilded? In my case, it's power cables, USB cables, FW cables, and audio cables. time, if you look at the pics, the loop seems large enough to the eye. What other means do people use to manage cables? Cables...

    Cable Management

I'm thinking of getting some stuff from Bluelounge, including this cableclip. I've always believed that winding a cable that is in use in a loop will create problems - inductance, signal getting funky, etc. To date I've always laid cable out, making sure it's never looped. Am I paranoid? The...

    Sandy Bridge

What sizes are motherboards these days? Way back, I always bought only cases that could take an EATX board. Are all high-end consumer grade (not workstation or server) boards now ATX size, max? I ask because someday I'll upgrade to Sandy Bridge and will probably buy a new case for that setup. A...

Sorry for the delay. BIOS is Phoenix Award 6.00 PG on a DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert. Happened again just now on boot. The MB has "diagnostic LEDs" that light up on power on and go off one by one as it detects each piece of hw. The LED for CPU detection goes off, but the one for memory...

    Beep Codes

What the heck is a single long beep (not the short single that occurs on a normal boot up), repeated at intervals? My beep code cheat sheet doesn't have it listed. To get rid of it, I pulled out the video card, air-dusted it and reseated it; did same with an add-on PCI USB card. PC booted...

    Technet Advice

Buying Technet here is a hassle. There is no online option, and since it's a "slow-moving item", it is special order and has to be paid for in advance. MS ships the products ordered once a month, and it arrives on a slave-powered dhow from wherever. I paid on Nov 4, and have Technet 2010...

First, a correction: I must have been higgledy-piggledy when I posted; it's the 24-70 f2.8 I have, not the 17-24. I meant to say that 200mm hardly seems to bring the subject closer. I really haven't found a use for it. The 24-70 is more useful to me. So yes, a longer lens would be more useful...

    Electrickery

It's not isolated, period. Cheapos take the easy way out and connect the neutral (not-hot) wire to the metal body. This becomes a problem if the device is moved to a country where the hot and neutral contacts are swapped at the socket. The cheapos know what they did, so will not correct the...

Cloning a HD to a smaller SSD (v. partition alignment)

That's because Symantec buggered it. It was pretty good while PowerQuest was releasing it. I bought the first version released by Symantec; one release was enough for them to work their magic on it.
