I keep a PC running in my garage, but it's out there on my workbench, waiting for me to test spare parts. Its case even has some rust on it, where paint got chipped off. But I think putting a whole rack of known-god equipment out there might not be wise.

The Window-based guys generally run Windows CE and have ~300MHz CPUs with 64 - 512MB RAM. If you can compile your program for that, they can do things besides be a terminal. Besides, why do anything on a client if you've got a monster server 50 feet away that's using .04% of its CPU(s)?
