    LS120s and making boot disks

The machines in my classroom are K6-3 500s (on crappy PC Chips boards) with LS-120s installed. Today I learned that Win98SE won't make a "normal" (Add/Remove Programs > Boot Disk) boot floppy if A: is an LS-120 installed. I've not done much of anything with an LS-120 but it appears to be the...

    The CPU Battle!

I still want someone to answer the Duron 1.2GHz v. Athlon 1.2GHz question (vs. Celeron 1.2GHz, although that one is probably obvious). But that is a cool picture.

BLADERUNNER IS ON USA NETWORK NOW!

Bladerunner is in all likelihood the best science fiction movie of all time (2001: A Space Odessey is probably second by most accounts). The amazing thing about Blade Runner is that it is a movie that defines a highly plausible future, then proceeds to ignore it completely to focus on what boils...

How much better is Athlon that Duron for Folding

It'd be interesting to know if F@H is memory-bandwidth intensive. I don't think it is but it might also be an interesting comparison. AFAIK there is no difference between the Duron and the Athlon save the artificial limitation to 200MHz bus and the amount/quality of cache on the Duron.

Like Mark, I probably drink more milk than most adults, too, although I'm partial to the Strawberry-flavored Nestle powder in mine. :) Tea is good too, particularly the peppermint or citrus kind. Or sun-brewed iced tea with some lime in it. That's always good.

    A question for all....

I actually know someone facing an arranged marriage right now. She's Indian, but her parents are Southern Baptist and trying to keep within their homeland's tradition. There are exactly six people in the US they'll allow her to marry (nationality/income level/religion etc) Understand, this is a...

OTOH, I know of a guy who goes to kiddie sporting events with a reasonably high-quality Olympus Digital Camera, takes fabulous shots of whatever their in-game heroics are, and makes a living selling the results, output on a midrange Epson printer, to parents. That says a lot to me right there...

Best thing I can tell you is to make a LAN Manager boot disk with drivers for your NIC, if possible. Bootdisk.com has one set up for a 3COM PCMCIA nic, but I can help you if you need something different than that. DOS drivers + LAN Manager client is a major PITA to set up.

    A question for all....

In a situation like mine - where my partner came to me and said "I need to find out if I'm gay", I could hardly fault her for finding what she needed to know. A case, surely, where an affair is forgivable (to me, anyway). Marriage is a very special bond, surely, but it is a bond that can be...

I think in a strong marriage an affair is absolutely unforgivable, given the notion of fidelity that is typically included in marriage. Tea did say she wanted a quiet printer. HP LaserJet 4s are a lot of good things, but I wouldn't call 'em quiet. My personal opinion is that no printer is any good unless it's shaped like and built like a photocopier or an early-model LaserJet, but that's hardly anything to put on a desktop...
